RicFoxx +1 for getting cat5 to do your cap, the mount's a bitch and you don't want to mess with that cap ! Not my business but Shane checked out my whole mike: he's built a bunch if your offering to run his clock: you might want to ask him to do his no detail is too small diy review: eagle eyes and chops !Martin John Butler i really wouldn't worry about build quality of your Thiersch cap: the guy is a master tradesman with decades of experience: the variable is the glued on cap but who better than Siegfried to do it ! A tunable backplate like the c12 is another beast: when your flush you could get sinsay to build you a new tuneable cap and tweak that, when happy , build mk-u47 install your current cap or sell the cap. All true, Shane is the man! but, dandeurloo is also one of the "men" lol, he built Rick's mic, which means it's all good i'm sure 8) The capsule is 3 small solder points, you have to just be careful... unlike our buddy kcat and his Gronkomic technique! sorry bud, couldn't resist 8)

Yea I would get dandeurloo to do it but that means I would have to ship it half way across the country just to swap the capsule and I don't trust shipping services anymore!!! Dan also built me a killer DIY LA2A!

I am going to move on to diffusers ,can you give me some advice Jk ? the thing about the caps is its easy to forget how incredibly thin they are as they appear, due to their tautness , to be very strong, i guess they are completely in one plane but don't touch them ! I was having trouble with my continuity the first time and laid the cap down and forgot about the teflon pins that you solder the leads to; royally fucked in an instant don't worry rickfoxx not that kind of LAME thing that Shane would do . Seriously he packed everything up so carefully. I loved this ! I had sent my Mike down in the solid foam roll that max send it in and boxed it of course. shane sent it back that way and double bubble wrapped and , wait for it, when I finally got the Mike out, he has also used the Thiersch heavy duty plastic bag that held the cap to completely cover the wire mesh of the head basket. That dude means business. Just so you all know, Tony, texted me immediately when my Mike feel over and he spent a couple of hours on the phone with me helping me to diagnose everything. Pretty certain he was checking the continuity on JK's Mike at the same time, but that was very generous of him as Shane has been too, so I'll eat a little crow from both of them for sure !!

I think I'll just call sinsay later in the week and leave it in his capable hands.

Clearly, Tony's the real deal.

Clearly, Tony's the real deal.Martin i could be wrong but your cap is glued together: you get what you get, you can't tweak it. the skin can be replaced but why ? the c12 style with the screws is adjustable and the skin can be more easily replaced. hope i am not misinforming you, personally i think your mike sounds great: why mess with it

Yeah - k47 has a tension ring with screws that can be adjusted, correct? M7 is glued.

Thanks guys, that's actually a relief. If I want something else at some point, I'll just get it. Funny, Mike from Blackspade recommended the cap change, so I'd have figured he knew what was up. Once again, when in doubt, call sinsay.

You can change the whole cap but glue isn't screws .
By the time you buy a new cap you are well on your way to a new mike. i 'd keep your BS just like it is and that's no BS, well it is but you get that I'm not BS ing you on the BS thing: just trying to be clear: i'm here for your bro and that's no BS !

Thanks my man.
I think a part of what I'm looking for is in the preamp tone, My ears keep leading me to the 1073, so I'll either get one sometime down the road, or just get the UAD 1073 in the meantime.
Has Slate actually put the VMS in the stores yet, I'd be shocked if that thing actually sounds like the MK47 here. It could be a useful tool if it's even 95% of the tone quality of these great mics.

or their FG-X,. I bought mine for $200 in January 2013, after being promised it would be available in a couple of months in 64 bit, I'm still waiting, and when and if they ever manage to get their VBC up to date, it better be a huge improvement, because in the two years they couldn't get that act together, others have moved forward. The new Focusrite Red that came with Apple's recent Logic X upgrade sounds better than even Slate's very good VBC!
OK, rant over, back to mics. I still have an open mind regarding Slate's VMS. For $1,000 it could be wonderful. After hearing the MK47, I do seriously doubt that can ever be emulated, but then one never knows, do one.

oh you mean my maximum mk-u dufus award ! yup !
I set it up in my best stand , walked over to set up pro tools and when turning around stepped on the cable wrong turned it and pulled over the 47
luckily just a little ding in the body, headbasket was fine but the mike didn't work, massive continuity checking ensued and resetting cap, everything checked out but still no sound so I switched out the tubes. I had bought WE 408a too and bingo, worked like a charm ! big thrill !
very pleased with it sonically and did 2 day burn in.
I am sure you will be very pleased !

I think Slate's VMS was gonna be $2000 It was, they changed it to one mic and a few other things, and now it'll be $1,000. I think they can be ordered now, but didn't see one at either B & H or Guitar Center last week.

Just to be clear, I wasn't thinking of changing my capsule, just the coupling cap, (capacitor) with a Russian one that Mike from Blackspade kindly suggested..
