Oh man, Im listening to Norah Jones's album now, where she uses the M49. I mentioned before, I have the Blackspade/TabFunkenwerk UM17 Blueline, which Oliver Archut said sounds like the M49. I had no real reference before, but there's a certain quality to the particular one Norah Jones used that is a dead ringer for my mic.
Thing is, I don't really love that particular sound, but I get that it's world class. I prefer the smoother C12 or maybe the new MK47 DIY build, but I'm glad I have at least one very, very good mic, and can happily live with it, especially knowing it really does sound like the M49 !

ahh, so true ericn. Now, if only I could find and afford the C12 I used once for a live band recording in a studio, I'd be done. At least as far as my voice is concerned.

Got to see and hear an M49 when a friend I'd recorded many, many times went into a "real" studio. (Grant Ave in Hamilton - Lanois' old place). It sure sounded better than the AT 4033 or SM7 I'd been using on him. A lot better! The LA2 probably didn't hurt either.
Cheers, Geoff

Cheers, Geoff Many moons ago a guy in Louisiana had this M49 started asking $2400, it was me Lanios and Lyle Lovette trying to buy it. I found out who the others were and dropped out, 6 months later Lyle told me he walked away and wished he had not so that might have been the mic!

geoff, M49 and an , LA2, tasty !
My favorite vocal sound is Lyle Lovett's "Road to Esenada". It was done with a U67 on voice and a C24, ( stereo C12) on the guitar, with bleed into both.

In the next couple weeks, we will be doing some comparison clips of a couple real M49's, real U67's, elam 251's, and one of the very first serial numbered U47's, against clones of the same in MY studio, i'm so excited about this i can hardly stand it! A little nerve wracking having such amazing mics on premises, we'll be in the studio making noise, so if anyone decides to drop by, don't worry Rhonda(my dog) is a sweetheart, just give her a pat on the head and come on in 8) awww, so cute!
