I'm not sure if any of you saw this on Saturday. Jt has been touring and using the ID DI's for awhile. It was very cool to see it so visibly on SNL. Great performances! Nice, dude! Are those Stager 2N's I see on the amps? Yes. The FOH guy is a big Stager fan. Congrats on the cameo dandeurloo!! Super cool! I watched both performances and didn't notice any of that the first time around. Is it me or is Sturgill very hard to understand? I really want to like him but man oh man I can't understand a damn thing he's singing.

Wanted to bump this thread as I finally got a ZOD ID DI. Simply amazing! Everything said is true. Obviously I love it on my bass but was pleased to find it worked really great in a vocal chain with my M49c clone into the ZOD then an Inward Connections Brute. Now I need a few more

Still loving this DI. Should have a lot more buzz around it. Is Dan Deurloo still on the board. dandeurloo

Loving my pair here as well. Dan is awesome!!! Last thing I cut with them is a 269 into the DI (I know, weird, but it works) into WT72, into a custom LA2a that Dan built me, into PT. Recorded Violin. Fiddle actually. Man...sooooooooo smooth and sweet.

I like gear that does more than one thing.

Wonderful. I've also used the ZOD's after a tube mic and before the pre. Pretty cool. Can't say enough good things about them....

I'll add that it's capable of 26dB of gain so depending on your mic and source you might be able to skip the preamp and send it straight to an EQ or compressor. I have one of those Coil phantom boxes and have run an 84 on snare into the ZOD, that'll put a smile on your face!

I have done a hot tube mic into ZOD into LA2a (which has a lot of gain too) into AD interface. Worked great. Tubey goodness.

I’ve been digging the zod into an La2a with my bass- blend that in with an ampeq custom shop setting on amplitube and it’s sweet. Haven’t thought of trying a mic into it hmmm- If I were whipping up the u87 should I go mic-> zod->vp28-> la2a?? Some fun experimenting ahead lol

I've seen a pic of your Zod DIs on your mix buss on Facebook Bill and have been curious about that for a while. What would you say they're sonically adding to the mix? Glue? Dimension? Beefyness? Intangible betterness? I own a Silver Bullet so I'm curious to hear what you think the Zods are bringing to a final mix. Is it a genre specific use or pretty much on every mix you do?

Since I don't do Facebook, that's a MIRACLE!!! LOL. (Probably IG!). I don't ALWAYS use them, but I usually do. They are permanently patched in, but I CAN (and sometimes do) remove them. The SB is big and muscular, can get aggressive. The ZOD's are more elegant, add some tube dimension and LF size to the party. Not always right, but when it is, it ISSSSS! Heavier, denser mixes and it can be too much. If it had a blend, I would probably keep it in, and back the affected signal way off. It can get too much on mixes that are already large and dense. On more open and elegant things, they wonderful. And then again, you can always use them as DI's. . I'm not sure what it is, but I often end up using things in ways they were never envisioned to be used for. Go figure..... . You can see them perched on the upper lip of the Right pod in my desk..... Anyone compared the Zod DI to the Fatboy DI?

Gotta question for you. I'm tracking bass and I'm using the thru output of my Zod DI for the first time, to capture a dry take on the bass. The normal DI output is feeding a Coil Audio CA-70S -> Highland Dynamics BG2 -> Pultec clone. The thru is going to a DI of a Neve 1073EQ clone (Stam).
The problem is that when the thru cable is plugged, the tone of my normal output chain tanks. Dull, muddy, lifeless. When I unplug the cable, I get my tone back.
And even when I take the thru output directly into my interface, instead of the 1073 DI, I lose a little of the open top end. Not as much as before, but it's still a loss.
What's going on? I thought the thru shouldn't affect the normal output?

I get the same thing using the thru with my ZOD, my OLLA handles this fine. Someone smarter can probably explain why.

Sounds like it’s some type of impedance issue

Dan said I need to use a buffer after the thru. It’s an impedance issue.

Dan said I need to use a buffer after the thru. It’s an impedance issue. Yes, you’re paralleling inputs.

Dan said I need to use a buffer after the thru. It’s an impedance issue. Yes, you’re paralleling inputs. So multi'ing out on a patchbay is probably not a good idea? Say routing a mic to different pre's? Or a pre to different compressors?

Yes, you’re paralleling inputs. So multi'ing out on a patchbay is probably not a good idea? Say routing a mic to different pre's? Or a pre to different compressors? A pre should be able to multiple to different comps, but a mic split to 2 pre's is 1/2 the Z, on average. On the Zod I assume it's a pass-through jack, so whatever that feeds is in parallel with the Zod. No idea what the Neve-ish DI is, if it's a transformer then it's probably 50K as compared to the (probably) 2M of the Zod. 50K x 2M = 100B/2,050,000 = 48,780. Slightly less than the Neve-ish by itself. If that's what's up. Have the Zod feed an active DI (2Mish+) to buffer. 2M x 2M = big number doesn't matter because this is straight division = 1M. To be even slightly ‘same as’ you’d need a buffer that’s at least 5M Z, and I don’t know that that exists.
