I'd get this while you can, I was at Singing Serpent Studio's in San Diego a couple weeks ago, these guys do music for every other commercial you see on mainstream television, the session that was going on had another brand of tube DI employed that resembles my name, and costs $1,500 going with a couple different basses, a hofner, jazz, P, it sounded pretty good, but the whole time I had to keep biting my lip, and tell my over excited ass to shut up! as i wanted to tell these guys.. "Hey! I have a Tube DI called a Zod that hammers the tones you're getting out of that to shit! no really, i'm totally serious!" haha, but seriously, it does, it wasn't close to my ears! maybe my J-bass just blew those other ones away?(all vintage as mine)
Dan's Zod does something really special in anchoring a solidity down low where it counts, and puts punchy sweet "cut through the mix" mid harmonics, and tube sheen up top, right where you need them for bass translation on smaller speakers, this DI is the most exciting piece of gear i've acquired in some time, my bass chops are ramping up because it beckons me just to play through it all the time, and to me that "calling" is the mark of rare and special piece of gear!
I'm talking about a DI, it seems silly, but it's no shit, get one while you can!
(i just re read this and it seems i'm a salesman, but i'm not, I've never met Dan in person, and i have no tie to him other than being a forums connected friend, and a customer, there is zero in it for me other than hopefully inspiring D to keep coming up with stuff so i can keep upping my status, so yes, I kneel before Zod haha 8)

One on the way! Sold my REDDI to fund this. Stoked to put this guy to work. I've got sessions booked through the next few months, so I'll report back as I dig in. What was wrong with the REDDI? Everyone seems to love them. Did you demo the ZOD and prefer it or going on faith? |

For me sometime I just get this feeling about a piece of gear don't know what it is (and don't suggest. It) but the Zod di is one of those pieces so is the Zulu and pueblo mic pre jmo
Also if it's at least as good as a Reddi it's cheaper and I'm supporting a guy on this forum (who by the way has a pretty good track record)
Again I don't buy all gear like this but so far when it feels right it's been right for me

At the risk of sounding like a broken record (and I know how to make those), the ZOD DI is indispensable. We are tweaking the bass signal chain right now, but the ZOD goes first in line, every time. Changing it out is not ever considered.

Are there any actual comparisons with a Reddi that could be done by one of you who have both? Also, compare it to the RNDI? I know it's not a tube DI, so it won't be similar, but I'm looking into the Zod, and want to hear some comparisons. I have an RNDI which I use for reamping and bass currently, however I am more than intrigued by a good tube DI.

It's so good it's kinda crazy. I never used a Reddi so I can't compare but it's the best DI I've ever used by a looooong shot.
