UA Connect is malware, plain and simple. Have y'all read the fine print? "By purchasing a UAD plugin, you implicitly agree that you will be punished for being a customer. As a free bonus, any complaints will be met with the verbal abuse of Drew@UA. We know you like it, and will come back for more." Speaking for myself, there are multiple reasons that I'm mostly leaving UA behind, but Drew being Drew was a big part of that. If a customer is already on the fence about your products and whether or not they want to continue to be a customer, having your rep (Drew) treat said customer with disrespect is not a good way to keep that customer on your side of the fence.

right, mine is authenticated to my physical iLok, so as long as I am not connected, it usually works fine. It's when I have to connect for some other reason (non UA) and the stupid UA connect app will connect anyway (I suppose I could implement a firewall rule to block it specifically and only turn it on when I want to allow them), then it sometimes leaves it in a state where it needs to re-authenticate (which is dumb). And have you noticed that the UADforum, even though it is supposedly not an official UA forum, has posts telling you NOT to post technical issues (and instead go to UA tech support - which as we know is a chat bot). WTF? I mean, the whole reason for a site like that to exist is that people would post questions or issues they were seeing and the community would help them out. This was free support (or at least kept some low hanging fruit from reaching the support desk) and UA is totally missing the point. Instead, let's station at troll a the bridge. (btw, 11 meters per second) With the shittiness of the current version of UA customer support, being able to have those sort of discussions on the UA forum are as important as ever.

Although your post may be a bit tongue-in-cheek, it is spot on. It is Malware. I went through this yesterday with file corruption from a recent UAD update for the OX Box. I am UAD-free sans my physical OX box; it is a modern golden-era UAD product and I need it's physical function. I had never updated the OX Box. The OX 'update file' installed every known UAD plugin file they have; they were hidden in the update. It corrupted files in my C drive. I had to use Power Shell to repair the drive, delete folders in 4 locations with 100s of UAD files, and use CC cleaner to repair the registry. That update cost me 4 hours of my day.
What I don't understand about UAD users at this point in time is why they continue to support the company. - Money and time invested for a 'sometimes great, usually average, often mediocre' product, that's it. That's just not enough. The level of disconnect between the user and the company is massive. UA doesn't like its customers, and customers don't like UA. It's akin to a married couple who are genuinely unhappy together, who honestly don't like each other's company but who insist on staying together in discord 'for the benefit of the children.' It's a decision that guarantees everyone in the family suffers.
You wouldn't know that, from going to the UADforum though. It's fanboi central over there. So if UA is relying on that as their primary source of "taking their customer's temperature" they're obviously not capturing enough data points. But that might help to explain why they continue to act as if they are still the only game in town, when it comes to digital emulation of hardware. They have no idea how much they are alienating a lot of customers.

Like any long-running forum, select community members do the daily policing and praise. In real-time, the actual number of regular posters is small and trivial in relation to real-world users; but at this stage, few of us are invested in anyone else's opinion regardless. At some point, I had to make my choice based on what I believe in. Healthy and happy man, that's the only win I care about.

Hmm… Tracking a (hopefully) nice Vocal is my primary concern. After that, “Processing” is primarily Pastime. I only have the LA2A collection/Pure Plate/Relab Essentials. The ones that came free with my Volt 1. I might just muddle along with my (few) other low cost and free Plugs. For at least a while. What’s funny is that the low cost Multitrack Studio (and free Lite version)… Have nice Plugs. Maybe not quite UA. But non-invasive. Chris
