The AS one sounds like the AS. Little brighter. Level is pretty killer…bought it. I actually like it on a lot of sources more than the Unfairchild.
Btw - try the “Mix Widener” preset on the Unfairchild on your 2 bus. I usually use a compression in M/S for this reason - to be able to adjust the sides and adjust width. But this really adds something…no gain reduction, just running through with the sides a little higher than the mid.

Thx @johnkenn , will demo but sounds like Level may be the winner...Mixwave has been slaying it! And thanks for the tip, must demo the unfairchild as well.

Now, holy shit batman that Unfairchild tip is amazing! Was using the UAD Capitol mastering comp for that same purpose but always felt it had an edge I didn't quite like (even with the saturator off). This preset alone is worth the price of admission. Thanks John, killer tip! Working on a vocal/acoustic and put the B channel on 7, have it right before the ATR-102...sexy as hell!

V-Comp and Level are both really good. For some reason I get a lot of crashes with V-Comp using OS above 4x. Unfairchild is up there. Just got the Capitol Compressor and with the saturation on, I actually prefer to use it over the aforementioned 3 and even the hardware Opto on the Shadow Hills. But I also stopped using dozens of instances of plugins on my tracks and sub-mixes after getting the UAD SSL 4k and the MAAG 4 MS recently. This allowed me to do a lot more with the Fusion hardware. With all the previous plugins active, I'd have to turn off Vintage Drive and the transformer a lot of the time. Capitol Compressor is the only thing I put on my mix buss now for mixes. Maybe if I was using different hardware and plugins to master I'd choose something else. The saturation button is what really sets it apart from other compressors. If I had to pick Level or V-Comp, it would be a tough call. Level is maybe a tad more musical. V-Comp more flexible. But my Level trial expired before I got the UAD SSL 4k and maybe the MAAG MS too, so I haven't tested it with my new mixing style.

I went with Level, which works great for me. They do sound a bit different, but I already have a HW V-Comp+ so wanted an alternate take on the Sta Level. I do think the envelope feels a bit more musical on Level though, and the Age knob is really useful. The AS V-Comp is more flexible as viciousbliss mentioned, which may or may not be a benefit for you (for my uses single/double and fast/slow release is enough for me)!

And they’re both programmed by the same guy? Man that’s tough

PA Vac Attack is another one worth taking a look at. Think it's also made by the same guy who did these.

Yeah, the Capitol gets a ton of love I know, but for me there's a bite to it (for lack of a better word) that I don't quite like...but I have used it quite a bit. Putting Level (vintage setting, fair amount of age) and Unfairchild (mix widener preset) on is so smooth and vibey...just my preference...Curve Bender, MDN P455 (no comp) and ATR-102 on there as well.

I have noticed that sometimes that preset can be a little much and you have to bring the sides in a little

There is a bite to it and it coincidentally was a great fit for my current mixing style based around the UAD SSL 4k and Dopamine on most tracks. Maag 4 MS and Satin on vocal busses, Maag4 and Dopamine for instrument ones(UAD SSL on there first). That Maag 4 MS is really useful. The eq on the UAD SSL is insane, just pushing 8k. These eqs remind me somewhat of the quality the Violet on the Fusion has. Just that they're smooth and helpful as opposed to sounding shrill. I actually don't like to use a lot of compression. I've not tried the Unfairchild Mix Widener preset. I would get Level if the price were a little lower. Seems this guy from Kiive will inevitably make another standout compressor that will end up costing a lot less than $89. Plus I already have those others. That new Cableguys Snap plugin was really outstanding. Also testing that Ripple Delay. Could be more standout new releases or big sales this month coming along that we don't know about. I got the UAD SSL 4k and Capitol Compressor for about $70 at Everyplugin with that Select bundle. Was tempted to do that 3 for $89.99 at UAD's site and get the 140, but I don't think I really need it.

I like to push a little 10K on the SSL for a vocal right at the end of the chain…very nice channel strip for sure. Dopamine is one I keep forgetting to demo…noted for tomorrow. Had my eye on Satin for awhile but I have way too many tape plugs already (and it’s quite pricey). Will have to take a look at the Maag 4 MS, I have a PA sub so should be ‘free’. I LOVE the 140…and the 250.
