I am starting to think seriously about a 2 bus eq. I won't have a huge bgt lets say around $1250 usd.
I like what I read about the kush electra ,what else should I be researching ?
I would consider a good diy kit too .
Thx !

First thought in that range is more tone control than EQ, and 500 series a Pair of the Purple Lil PeqR, or maybe something solid-state pultec esque . The ting is though, I would be careful any thing not stepped makes it really easy to screw with your soundstage.

yes stepped seems lie a must have feature.
I am aware of the BLA EQ but it seems to have mixed reviews; perhaps not so much its sonic but its build qualities ?

Summit EQP-200. I think I paid $1500 or so for mine, but one just sold on the Purple site for $1k. It had kept dropping and finally sold. I like it 1000x better than the BLA EQ that I had. It's more than worth the extra dough IMO.

Yeah they seamed to have some problems, but these are a bunch of great guys who from everything I have seen stand behind there stuff. Unfortunately at this price point your going to have to sacrifice something. What about DIY? Other wise It would smash your budget, AML Pultechs ?

Actually, I'd only consider the Electra, Tonelux and the Xfilter.

Thx everyone, these are good suggestions. I respect BLA alot too ( had my apollo modded) I just have not heard good things abut the eq
I am interested in DIY but I do like the whole kush philosophy too and everything brown sounds better: right ?

The Electra to me would be probably the best in that price range. Granted I only had mine for individual tracks, but the smooth top end and tightness of the lownend are really special. Not to mention you can make broad or surgical Q's. I think that EQ will one day be in high demand once more and more people start buying it. I know it only took 3 hours to sell mine, and I got almost what I paid for it, so if it was something you just didn't like you're not going to take a hit, especially if you go used to begin with.

Yeah that dude. He's had all that stuff up there for years. If He has for only $300 it's got to need lots of work! Don't get me wrong I have no problem with somebody asking what ever they want, if people are stupid enough to Pay that's on them. I know people who have been in a "I need it yesterday" situation ( the world of big tours) who have had great transactions with FPG!

$300...needs work...off brand...
nope.
Try to find or build a Sontec if you can. I know that's a bit complicated. They are just so precise though 5 bands and Q on every band in stereo! I got a PCB and case from DIY Racked, haven't built it yet, though. Joe Barresi is a fan of the real Sontec on his mixes.
I would put Maag 500 series onto the list. Dave Pensado is a fan, I have only tried the software version but it is actually quite nice on mix bus.
The Pultec EQP-1 is perfect also, if you could somehow unfathomably find a pair for your budget. I guess you'd have to build it yourself for that money. It was originally designed as a mastering equalizer. I would at the very least invest in some Pultec plugins. The Waves is actually really good on a mix, for me.

Thx, where are people getting their BOM for the Sontec build. I do see references on the Group DIY .

The Sonetec is an awesome idea The hard part is getting those pots! The option I am going to go with is the Chinese rotary switches on eBay. They actually look pretty decent, well I hope so anyway.

Hey All, there is a Summit EQP-200B on eBay right now. $1000, no bids yet, 1 day to go. Stereo Pultec style. I have the older version (no B designation) on my 2-buss for sweetening and love it. I considered grabbing this one to have a second, but can't justify another eq ATM. Good luck.

I love the Electra, but personally I'd want something with easier recall for 2buss.
I've used UAD massive passive lately. But I'm most interested in the bettermakers and elysia for hardware. Not heard either though.

I'd rather start with a Heritage Audio 1073 with EQ, and print that before worrying about 2 bus EQ, but I do know why you're looking in that direction.
Every time I listen to a 2tk "bounce" from Logic, I feel I lose something. I can have a mix right where I want it, and the bounce ends up sounding different, although it's not supposed to be. I've found shakers and high hats are louder on bounces than then when listening to the mix, and it's often less transparent, more bassy, or less highs, I'm not sure if it's one or the other or both.
At AES two years back there was a guy selling something that allowed you to preview the different codecs right away, to hear what your mix sounded like in that format, then adjust the mix accordingly. If it wasn't so expensive, I might have gotten it.

Not heard either though. I have the Elysia X-Filter too. That's more surgical and the EQP-200 is for sweetening. I like the Summit for tracking too, where the Elysia is only really mixing for me. The Elysia is really nice and useful, just a bit less euphoric IMO.
