Just curious if this is a unit worth having on the cheap, << $100.
Thanks, Carvel

I thought it was kind of weird, awkward compression when I had one for awhile. Seemed like the kind of thing you might want for really over exaggerated thwacky transients, like on metal drums or something.
Almost all DBX compression strikes me that way. Awkward transients.

love dbx compression, i have about 20+ channels of 160 variants, they are beef makers in hardknee, the overeasy button is something i hardly ever use......, ok, never use That said i can't speak to the 163x as i've never used one

You have to limit them afterwards. Or just use a better compressor.

Fun unit but not really classy or anything. A fun pickup if you're looking at it as a creative tool rather than a utility compressor if you have something nicer laying around. Though, they DO have their utility on certain things (guitars, basses, and toms in particular if I can recall).
Imo a good foray into cheap outboard compression for that price, like the micro limiter or cheaper aphex stuff.

Welp, muh dbx 566 has a built in limiter (and a saturation tube stage).
I never use overeasy though. It's squishy and mushy when used as recommended (OE led on most of the time). It's ironic because overeasy seems to be the opposite compression character of what dbx is known for.
