Really needs a remote. Six dsub's get clunky fast. This thing really needs to be racked or it will be very cumbersome. And this would work great for DAW-less setup for sure. But I can't envision doing any punches without a DAW. Never want to go back to that. Overdubs? Sure. Punches, no thanks.
Tell me more about this.
Punching in is such a mundane task and is still do it manually and by ear, mostly.
How do you do it? How does a DAW improve punches for you? Do you use auto punch-in and out a lot?
Non-destructive in a DAW. On a hard disk recorder it's like tape, better get it right. That's one thing if you're using actual tape, but why do that to yourself if you don't need to? Even in the days when I recorded to tape I would still dump to digital to do punches. The days of tape splices were just a few years before my time, never had to deal with that!

Ok, that's hardcore. I truly expected the Radar to have an undo feature, for some reason.
I'm OK with a destructive workflow, but I'm sure the talent won't. HAHA.

I'm sure Radar does, maybe Tascam does too actually. Idk.

I wish DAW (Pro tools anyway) punching didn't suck so much. Why haven't the fine folks at AVID figured out how to put tiny crossfades on the record function? I'm so sick of having to put in the crossfades on punches. Non-destructive in a DAW. On a hard disk recorder it's like tape, better get it right. RADAR has undo.

Go to: Setup > Preferences > Editing > Fades (top right section of the pop up on my rig). The box for Quick Punch fades is probably zeroed out (I just checked and it was on my laptop as well, so thanks for the reminder!) Set that crossfade to a few ms and it will now fade the punch in and punch out for you automatically. Editing is still kind of annoying, I like to batch fade with beat detective since it gives me some control on the fly, but if you make an edit later it errors out on any highlighted areas that already contain an edit. Would be cooler if it just ignored existing fades and applied them where missing. Maybe that's down to my own lack of knowledge though? Anyone?

I record myself almost exclusively in destructive mode and start to finish, not that I haven’t used playlists and loop mode, I just prefer to let it be what it is, emulating what I consider to be the greatest recorded musicians of all time, interesting how everything that came before cut n paste completely demolishes everything that came after it, 🤔I wonder if there’s a reason for that?

The itch for a Radar has worsened. Is a console a must? Or can the Radar "DAW" sum tracks internally, as least for monitoring?

Sad but true, then ⛈️🥺
Ok, I'm not giving up so easily. MAYBE the SSL BIG SIX would be enough. Or a Matrix.

There's also the RADAR that also has Pro Tools, so you can do things like track in RADAR mode, then get into Pro Tools with what I believe is a pretty simple procedure. It gets pricy though...

I have a few of the Radar Studio systems, which allows for other DAW software to be installed.
As a matter of fact I have one unit, that has PT-10, DP-10, and Harrison Mix bus installed that I might be putting up for sale. Not sure if this unit has 16inputs or 24, but it does have the super Nyquist cards installed.
It's not been used in a few years!
Still in box after move.
If anyone is interested, gimme a holler...maybe I'll sell it?

By the way, this unit was the second in a multi unit setup, I had my two studios set up with 2 Radar Studio's in each.
So I'm not sure I have a full remote (session controller) for this particular unit, since it was the slave in this setup?
