I would save the money and use the KSM 313 you already have. It was the first “nice” mic I ever bought and is stellar IMO. I do have a pair sE voodoo 1s as well and they are also really good. And, what about a Beyer M 160? I have one of them too. I like mics. 😂 I love the KSM313, but haven't gotten inspiring results on vocals. Solid, but not "that's enough to make me put away my tube condenser" level. It's my go-to on guitar cabs and trumpet, for sure.

Have you tried both sides of it? To be fair, I use my Gefell M92.1s on vocals. It's a nice tube condenser as well. Isn't it nice to be able to have options?

I don't know if you are going to find most ribbons much more inspiring compared to a tube condenser unless you are going for a specific sound, or if you have a singer where the ribbon is what works (I have had to use on on a very sibilant female vocalist and it worked much better than a condenser there...). Also used one (a $100 Nady RSM-2 believe it or not) on a couple projects. One was a blues song where it just fit (and we pushed the preamp a bit too). The other was an old man playing banjo and singing riverboat songs. Again, it fit the mood.

I always go back to Jerry Garcia saying that ribbons work better for English and Neumanns work better for German given the emphasis in the language. Interesting perspective. The more agro/punk it gets the more German it may need to be, and vice versa.

I really like the Hohm I have on vocals. It's a favorite with many rappers I work with, go figure. I really like ribbons (especially more modern ribbon designs) on rap vocals. Catches the richness of the voice in a larger than life manner, and the transient reproduction is natural. I've heard great things about the Alder H44 as well, the design principle is solid and the tuning looks like it would be great on vocals (among many other things). My next ribbon purchases will likely be a couple of Samars. Leaning towards the VL37 because it's both a showstopping beauty and the tuning is basically my platonic ideal for a ribbon microphone, but the AL95 is a downright steal of a deal plus I dig piston ribbons.

Great repair shop too (Xaudia), broad ribbon experience. They do short runs of some other interesting ribbons as well, the Berserker and 4033 recreations.

The more agro/punk it gets the more German it may need to be, and vice versa. I remember Steve Albini saying Neumanns were the whiniest mics. I couldn’t hear it until someone I know miced his amp with a u87 for that effect and set it up to only sound right through the mic and very wrong with Shures and room mics. So much for the classic Neumann sound being the pinnacle of audio and decades of forum posts saying you need to get the right Neumann mic in optimal condition for the best sound proving to be to be crazy bullshit or lipstick on a pig when placed in front of many instruments and voices. No wonder Neumann moved away from their classic sound, causing the internet to get up in arms. It got in the way.
