They were some of the first plugs I got when I began my great plugin splurge of 23-24. I got one of the bundles and to be honest there are still a few I haven’t even tried out. But they seem like solid tools. Are there things that are better for a particular application? Probably. But the stuff I have used doesn’t suck.
Cheers, Geoff

UAD stuff is still in the upper echelon of plugs, IMO. The verbs are good, the Pultecs are great, and I think they have the most accurate Distressor plugin. I forgot to mention the Distressor. I don't know anything that deals with an unruly bass like it.

Thanks for everyones contribution! I decided to buy the Signature Edition 2 bundle. i am happy with that decision.
I've been contemplating a USB3 octo satellite. Will wait and see, because the price is quite steep IMO. I imagine a satellite being great for when working on a laptop, and even a stationary just to keep the system from being overwhelmed in larger projects.

Well compare the cost of octo to upgrading laptop: m series: you can run all of Signature native.

Yes, faster, cooler and more processing.

Sometimes I even do this with the DSP plugins just to make bounces faster later on.

One of the things I like about UAD is that upgrading my computer was a breeze. I find the simplicity valuable compared to managing a constellation of multiple vendors who may not even be in business next time around.
I bought into UAD, they sound great, they keep working, and it’s all in one.
My favs: ATR SHMC Manley Vari-Mu API EQ EP-4 and Space Echo Hitsville Verb 1073 All the UA hardware emulations (LA2A etc) Pultec

Emulation plugins are semi-functional tools AT BEST. Better used as futz boxes. There is far weirder and far more subtle stuff than UAD2 going back to Decapitator and SDDR. UAD2 still sound pretty good as slight distortion boxes but otherwise I don’t know. They’re cheap now.
The UAD2 plugins don’t capture some of the units they are modeled on’s crazy distortion. The goop, the mud, the hysteresis, the gunk, the turning into a glorified guitar pedal without the eq filters but neither do the Fuse plugins of the ones I am intimately familiar with (some of the pedals and the Tascam). I can get only some of the sounds. Not all of it. They’re all like early 2000s amp sims at best or maybe 2010ish ones. Reminds me of a POD or Simulanalog or Waves GTR 3.
The use as tools and dynamics control. Why hamper yourself with analog emulations of limited 1960s processors?
Outside of Cytomic (who is content to use 1/5th to 1/3rd of a modern cpu to model a pedal cheaper than the cpu) or synth or guitar plugins, I don’t see a point to analog emulations. Some of the tube plugins can be closer to good clean tube equipment than modern tube revival onward gear but that’s because a lot of r&d was put into tube modeling to emulate past equipment that was a lot more critical to various industries (including music) than emulating the unwanted characteristics of vintage recording equipment and turning those into a cartoon with additional digital artifacts not found in better digital processes that have existed for over 25 years.

In 2024? You bet. They have some cool stuff and now they’re cheap.

In 2024? You bet. They have some cool stuff and new they’re cheap. dirt cheap. Like stupid cheap. Less than 2 drinks not swill at a bar cheap. What happened because most of their products sound pretty good or cool without crazy artifacts or silly prosumer circuitry that looks like a behringer inside. Is this just a crazy attempt to increase their user base and sell the company or make true prosumer electronics? Are we going to get UAD headphones and soundbars like Marshall does now? But Marshall still makes amps…

UAD are a bit outdated today but I really like the 1176A, the LA-2A gray and the Studer A800, they are in almost all my mixes. But I find that with the "small" developers like Kiive, Tone Projects, TBtech, Fuse, Neold, Tokyo Dawn, etc we have better and cheaper tools.

I bought the Ultimate 12 bundle last November, when Sweetwater 'accidentally' blew it out for 2 bills. It's been nice for getting the native ports as they dropped instead of paying Spark monthly. Saw an open box Quad Satellite Firewire last week for $125 and pickd it up to try out the non-native ports in the package. Woof. It installed all the Softube/Brainworx plugs as demos in my plug-in list automatically, when I already own them all native from their developers. Played with the 480L compared to my 300, yeah, no, not really any closer than Relab. Compared the Korg to my SDD-3000, cool to have a plug-in version that operates the same way, but I've used pedal models that were closer tone wise. The latency is pretty crazy, I assume this stuff only gets used at mix by people, not for processing VIs and such while building a track. I'm only running it on my back-up Catalina/Intel Mac set-up as it's FW800, but after trying it I don't think I'd pursue a modern OS/M processor satellite version. Getting the native ports as they drop has been fun, even paid the $10 SSL update fee, but the whole system does seem technically played out if you're not an Apollo/Luna devotee.I guess that follows considering the price points you can get the stuff for now, the market has spoken.

A lot of native plugins have "caught up" tonally but still have to deal with latency. Then again I almost never record into plugins so it's never been an issue for me. hardware works better for that.

I bought the Ultimate 12 bundle last November, when Sweetwater 'accidentally' blew it out for 2 bills. I did this too - never used anything UAD before that and have been on Logic for years. Some of the plugins are nice for dialing in something fast, but I'm a little leery of growing to depend on them too much considering all of the weirdness surrounding the company. THAT BEING SAID, I have a line on an Octo Satellite for around $400. Should I do it? It's either that or the Carl Tatz Phantom Focus Chair, which I'm hoping will let me spend some more time actually in front of the computer.

I'd go with the chair, the DSP-only plug-ins are good, but not $400 good when you can just wait for the native version to be released instead. The firewire Quad was super cheap, but it adds massive latency compared to the native plugs.
