Hey, I'm still in the studio monitor rabbit-hole!
Do any of you have experience with HEDD type monitors? Like Adam & Eve, they use ribbon tweeters.
There's the type 05, 07 two-ways and the type 20 three-ways and type 30 which has two woofers
They are said to be very clear sounding without being harsh in the mid-top.

You have to love AMTs that are called ribbons but are not. I hate them. But for casual listening I have the worlds greatest line source ribbons.

I know Adam Audio gets criticism for their ATM being supposely harsh, but I see pretty much praise for the HEDDs tweeters in comparison.

Honestly I have yet to hear a single AMT I like as much as even the $75 Morell dome.

It took me 15 years to realize I love listening to ribbon tweeters (Adam a7’s) but hate mixing on them. They over hype the hi end imho. For what it’s work I think ribbon tweeters are the opposite of harsh. They’re clear, hyped and easy to listen to for long periods of time ime.

But Adams isn’t a real ribbon AMT, Leaf, Folded ribbon yes, ribbon no😁

I have the Hedd type 20 mk II. Whatever have been said about Adam tweeters don't apply on the Hedd lineup. The toppend is super detailed and very revealing, not harsh but it almost feel like there is an extension which I haven't heard in any other speaker. The mids are balanced and it's easy to make mix decisions. The low-end is good but not overbearing. The only criticism I have is that if I only use the speakers when mixing the mixes usually ends up a little bit thick in the high bass area. I have a pair of headphones that I rely on for that so for me that hasn't been an issue.

Did it not translate for you? Basically yes. I worked on a7’s for years. They’re good monitors, but it was always a struggle translate. After a lot of testing of different monitor I found, generally speaking, that domed tweeters are much more to my liking when it comes to making mix decisions and translating well. YMMV
