Is Ken Tamplin for real or some kind of parody?
Never heard of him until I saw the WoP analysis.
The first thing I thought of was this must be the Spinal Tap School of Vocal Coaching.
The guy’s entire persona seems to be stuck on ‘eleven’ without a mute button.
Anyway it seems he removed the videos in question from his YouTube channel after he was called out.
I’m having trouble believing this guy is serious and not some kind of piss take.

BEWARE mini rant; Wadr, "business" really? actually if you look at what wop is doing, intended or not, its a noble service to all real musicians and engineers who respect and take their craft seriously, also IT'S F-ING HILARIOUS WATCHING SPINAL TAP STYLE SELF OWN YOUTUBE 2024! The actual bane to all of us artists in this unfortunate business has been a long cancerous run of thievery streaming, the voice, american idol and all the other money grab corporate propagations of utter and total BS, that is what has all but destroyed the music industry, I'm super happy to see someone, anyone and everyone pushing back on it even a little bit, in any form I can get of course jmo, and i posted this primarily because i think watching fraudulent egomaniacal clowns self own is knee slappingly funny when it's not life or death |

Yah this has been a schadenfreude tsunami. I posted this over in the singing lessons thread.
Personally I'm all in favor of WoP calling out the charlatanry of lip synced fraudulence bilking people out of money on false pretenses.
Selling naive aspirants on a dream based on fake singing? Nope. No excuse for that. Call that fraud out.

It’s still his real voice, and hasn’t been edited to sound any better than it is. He just probably thought he could sync a live vocal recording with the video, and sadly for him it’s a train wreck.
Granted his whole “thing” is a bit over the top for an underwhelming voice, but everyone has a right to live in their own private Idaho.

OK .... fair enough. And the point is? Watch the video, bro Watched it …. And to me it’s just an internet bitch fest. Ken has 100’s of videos of him singing live in the room as he does song analysis. He clearly can sing and can teach. I don’t like his voice and I don’t rate his teaching but that’s just my opinion. Clearly lot’s of other people do rate him, they won’t be put off by this video imho. |

WoP has exposed The Eagles, Celine Dion and apparently now Lenny Kravitz.
And be sure that many, many other artists are/have been doing the same maybe for years.
So does that mean Milli Vanilli were frauds or just ahead of their time? 🫤
Of course with AI I expect these deceptions will become harder to pick because AI can be used to change the mimed audio just enough from the previously recorded and dubbed in version to be impossible to prove they are the same even with analysis software.
The other aspect of this is it potentially brings us closer to ‘legitimising’ full blown AI created artists because if many of the so called legitimate artists we grew up with are now effectively cheating, and will be increasingly so using AI, then where does one draw the line as what can be considered acceptable?
Specifically should ‘live’ concerts be required to state they are simulated or lipsynced?

There are a lot of talented Artists who show you live that they are singing to "tracks" usually the house mix has their vocal up so high you can hear them in unison with the track. And most will ad lib and do things to fully reveal to the audience that they are using tracks and sing their lead above it. This WOP thing is 10 years too late. Very few people try to hide it or get one over on their audience, it's not necessary anymore people "get it" just like they get pitch correction.

Anytime a pop star is dancing while singing, it’s lip syncing. It’s physically impossible to do those large choreographed dance routines and sing with any accuracy. It’s sad but that’s the state of things. I liken it to movies…we know it’s all acting and special effects but we suspend our disbelief because it’s entertaining. |
