How does it compare to the Kiive/Audioscape or Arturia version? Well, this one is also by Kiive, isn't it? On this one, the modeling was QA'd by the ears of Eric Valentine. I think this additional step should become a thing. And I don't mean famous people putting their name on emulations, like everyone does. I mean giving the bare bones model to some golden eared guy with decades of experience mixing to tweak the action of the emulation until it's the best it can be, like what happened here. I didn’t think this had anything to do with Eric Valentine?

Kiive did the Unfairchild for EV. He also did the VComp plugin for Audioscape, based on their version of a STA design. This is by Mixwave who based it on a traditional STA level. So apples, oranges, and then maybe a tangerine?

I do, no question. It’s a gorgeous looking plugin. That look is doing most the compression in my head. If I block the graphic and imagine any other comprsssor, my opinion changes.
$75 or less seems fine for the effort they put in to making a great plugin.
I wish we could charge $75 or more per copy for our similar effort into making music. 1000 copies =$75k? Yes please!! oh one can dream 😂
ok maybe try this: Keep the hardware and force it into your chain as much as possible. Then if you always bypass it for 6 months straight, ok let it go.

Wait…somebody stop me. I just had thoughts about selling my sta-level. Every. Freaking. Time. I sell a Sta, I ask myself, “Self, why did you sell said Sta-level.” I always start with thinking I can get by with X…and X never ultimately satisfies. Do not sell your STA

Just my humble opinion. the past couple years I’ve sold off hardware that I’ve only used in mixing when plugins like this come out to replace it. As long as I can get close to it in software. But if I use it tracking it stays. I firmly believe there the extra sauce is hitting the audio before the A to D conversion happens. The Sta level was usually a mixing tool for me. I usually lean towards my 1176 or RS660 in tracking.

It doesn't. I'm an idiot and was commenting on the Unfairchild plugin, for some reason.

Do not sell your STA I wonder if we should all contribute to a fund to pay Johnkenn the price he would get for selling his current STA, but under one condition: He is never allowed to sell the STA we give him the money for. Hmmmmmmmmmm

Hmmmmmmmmmm Ha. That would be a hell of a deal for me! It’s just the chase that’s so much fun. I WILL say this. I’ll never sell the Helios. I might sell the second module because I think I still like the CAPI Heiders more on the 2 bus. Found out that there’s actually a resistor that lifts the line in on the 0011 at 10khz. Don’t remember by how much though. Anyway, Tim at H2 told me you can actually clip those. But - it occurred to me - why not just turn the eq down until you like it. So I need to try again.

That's the point of all these threads - plugins do get "close" Then it becomes a very personal justification about keeping so much money tied up in hardware for that last 20% (or whatever number you put on it) I'm not convinced the "listening public" can tell the difference at all - so I can say I do it for my own personal satisfaction. Maybe one day that thinking will change!

I wish we could charge $75 or more per copy for our similar effort into making music. 1000 copies =$75k? Yes please!! oh one can dream 😂 Holy shit. This might be the most depressing thing I’ve ever heard (since 20 mins ago anyway)… The tool is 100 times the cost of the product. What a bunch of suckers we all are. This isn’t a comment on software people making a living wage, this is more a comment on the music industry increasing wages from .99 cents a single in 1964 to $1.29 sixty fucking years later. But I digress. I’ll probably buy this.

I interact with software developers who pull in at least $200k a year and they're losing their minds over having to pay for tools. A $20 subscription? A one-time $10 cost? Forget it, they act like it's highway robbery. Meanwhile, I can't even bring myself to tell them how we drop thousands on stuff that won't make us a dime. I'm afraid they'll stroke out.

Let me allay your fears . . . they can handle it. and if a few of them stroke out, oh well, cost of doing business. (yes I know that was dark, my bad, LOLZ)
