I’ve failed to get vocal clips up…need to get that done. I think I mentioned it, but I tracked a guy with this (over the Soyuz) and it was just phenomenal. In fact, I was mixing yesterday…had kind’ve gotten everything to where I wanted…looked and realized I had never even EQ’d the vocal…and it sounded freaking awesome. (So I immediately went in and tweaked to screw it up lol)…That doesn’t happen all the time - it can be the sliiiightest bit edgy on me - but that goes for about every mic.

I haven't sang into this mic for about a month. I've been really exploring and experimenting the Vanguard V14 and all of its different settings.
This morning I set up the SA U48 (mine is the HK47 cap) and recorded some vocals for a new track to a click.
Holy crud. I'd forgotten how instantly delicious this U48 is. For my voice at least that C12 style in the V14 can get a bit crisp unless I sag the voltage.
However the moment I heard the U48 this morning I recalled how beautifully this mic tames harshness and yet elevates the tonality with no muddiness.
As @johnkenn said, hardly any processing is needed to get an incredible rich sound finished into the mix. I've been geeking out on Chris from Airwindows' use of the word Sonority lately. 'Sonorous' is exactly the right word to describe the SAE U48.
I'll try to upload some examples as well. I can't share this particular track cuz it's still in development, but I've always got a cover that I can mangle :-) How about Lil' Mamma's Lip Gloss?
I'm guessing no one here has ever heard Lip Gloss though a U48 :-)

Ok... You all asked for it! Well, actually you didn't but I'll grace you with it's presence regardless :-) Got Gloss? One totally dry no processing, the second with only a DAW stock eq hpf @95hz and a stock glue comp leveling at ~2dB of GR to make the lower level more intellegible. There is a pretty big dynamic range, but I'm impressed at how the SAE U47 compresses all by itself in the dry track. It's really sweet! cdkelly Thanks! Impossibly delicious. https%3A//soundcloud.com/poppaflavor/dry_lil-mamma-lip-gloss-saehttps%3A//soundcloud.com/poppaflavor/hpf-95-hz-stock-glue-comp-2db

yeah, I had to look that song up too because I was like WTF - it's not something in my repertoire. and hopefully won't have to be again. but the mic sounds good (although a couple weird spots I heard - but maybe some weird resonance on the cheap ear buds I was using?)

Actually it's probably weird resonance in this space I recorded. I'm trying to rearrange some things and broke down the vocal booth in the lined closet and moved out into the small mixing room because the larger recording room is full of gearboxes as I try to figure out what to sell off. Hopefully in a couple weeks I'll have everything set back up in the recordings will lose that little blast of resonance. I hate it cuz it makes it so I can't actually lean in and open up. poppaflavor that had me rolling! wtf is that?! ‘You keep you keep usind it’, ‘We be we be rubbind it’ and the vibrato on ‘cause’, ah love it! I'm here to serve, sirs!:-D We're almost at the holidays, so soon it'll be time for my Christmas rendition of Chuck Berry's Silver Balls. Buckle up.:-O

Welp, procrastinator that I am, I'm still trying scratch tracks in the tiny space. It is what it is. Lordy be I have to sell some stuff. But, not this mic :-)
Over extended periods of metronoming I get all pent up and harried/hurried when I try to track my own vocals even to click or backing track. At first I tried to take breaks, but I'm not really a take-breaks kinda dude. So finally I realized that haphazardly ringing out a fam fan fav for a few minutes decompresses my pensiveness and re-grounds me.
At the same time, I use those 'break-not-breaks" to try fun stuff. Been trying to lean into Bette Davis Eyes fry.
No processing, just a raw short vox on a break from the metronome trying to get my voice like a menage a quatre of jack daniels, malborough man, Madeline Peyroux and of course, Kim Carnes.

I'm JUST NOW getting to do some vocals with this (like for real vox)...Honestly, I didn't have time to futz around with another vocal mic when I knew the Soyuz was working well. (For myself that is)...But I committed to singing some tunes with it and damn. It's so good. Not saying it's any better than a Heiserman or other offerings, but it's THAT good of a quality for sure. Which makes it the bargain of the century. This is a Christian Gaither-type gospel thing...so I'm singing kinda hokey gaither-type gospel lol. Not making fun - it's just not my style per se. I'm gonna do a quartet, but I think I might use AI for one or two of the others - like sing it and then put the mask over it. Be kinda fun. Anyway - I'll post when I'm done tuning...but wanted to drop in and say how happy I am with this thing. I thought it was a little light in the loafers on the bottom when I first got it...but that has seemed to be perfect in mixes. I do a small lift at 200Hz and take out a bit of 3.5kHz...and it's almost freaking perfect.

Damn, I’m chomping at the bit here! Chad said 2-3 weeks to build, and then probably roughly a week to ship here. Anyway, in the meantime I’ve been checking out the SAE’s FB profile and found this little gem from Ben Folds…’I used the SAE 47 on most (vocals on upcoming record). A U67 on one and the M49 on one. It stands easily with the greats! Thank you.’ poppaflavor , another masterpiece! …mic sounds really good too.

Love those vocal choices too! If you don’t mind, can you share what preamp and converters? Just trying to figure out budgeting
