I second this ! I have one, and it sounds great. Instant Beatles sound, especially when I use it to double the snare. Also speaking of sleigh bells--my wife gave me one of those small tambourines that are made to mount on hi-hats, and on a whim I shook it with my hand for a recording. It gave a beautiful sleigh bell type sound. Like these - which one? www.rustydrums.co.uk/percussion.html

It is a 10" with two rows of metal jingles, like the Model 1084 in your link.

I own a few Ludwigs. You can buy more "Hi-Fi" out there, but nothing beats an old Ludwig for sitting in the track. They go for good money because the word has been out on them for a long time. I would be patient and scan FB Marketplace and local sources instead shelling out big $$.

Just found a Ludwig at a good price on FB Marketplace. Pick up only. Well worth it if you live near Mechanicsburg PA. Here's a LINK. You can thank me later!

I'm starting to wish I hadn't started this thread - now I've got to triple my budget!

Thanks Not sure if I have the terminology of the parts right, but the hoop itself, the main body, is wood, as can be seen in the picture of the model for sale. The skin attaches to the hoop over a thin metal rim. I hope this helps.

Thanks As I look more closely at the picture of the model in your link (Model 1084), it looks to me as if that model's hoop is metal. (And it says metal--duh, I steered you to the wrong model ! ) Mine is wood. Sorry about that. Hope this helps.

I remember doing a session with a percussionist who spent a great deal of time talking about materials - plastic vs. wood, basically.
It is sort of true. Not saying you can't use anything but wood tambos are pretty pleasant to my ears. Same with stuff like guiros, etc. Just seems to cut down on the sizzle.

Ya’ll need to stop. Now I am gonna have to buy a Coil mic pre and an Aurora (n) interface to use with a Josephson C700 mic to record my ludwig tambourine.
All so I can have 50 monthly listeners on Spotify.
