Tony, I think you may be right. Man I just tried closing my computer to get some sort of sleep tonight and two more orders just popped in. Where are you people coming from!!!!!!!! No worries on time-frame. I joked with a couple of my former students and another friend that maybe someday I'd hire them as solder lackeys. If this keeps up, I'll have to hire them next week. Most of the parts in the monitor controllers are easier to come by. (no weird NOS military diodes from Russia that take forever to get, and no waiting for Dave at Cinemag). If Dave ever comes up for air and reads this comment... I love you Dave. Seriously. Worst case scenario with the controllers is lighting a fire under the place I'm getting the blank table-top cases from. First order was like oh yeah, here you go. Second order was not so fast.

Very cool great pricing. Will you post stuff to OZ?? Yes yes yes! If I could ever find time to take a vacation, I'd hand deliver it to you. I'm trying to find a more accurate shipping calculator to use but i can get a rough guess next time I'm out. Unfortunately the Wooly Mammoth line is about as heavy as they come.

If you are on facebook, check there as things progress. I'll try to keep progress posted and pics of all the different assmebly stages as it starts to be cranked out. My wife snuck a couple good shots of me cursing at the silkscreens last week when I was trying to work out paint thickness issues. I think a couple of pieces were silkscreened 5 times before I got it right.

Hi Tim, I'm interested in the deluxe monitor controller and I have a couple of questions.
By the way, there's a typo in the description: "All monitor switching and touting (other than the phones amp) still remains passive an unaltered" I think should be "routing" and "and".
I currently have a Dangerous Source monitor controller and it's missing some features I would like. I'm considering the Drawmer MC2.1, but it's also missing some things. Since you build your equipment by hand, would it be possible to do a bit of customization? The things I have in mind are:
1. 4 speaker outputs instead of 3.
2. A phase reverse switch to invert the polarity on one of the channels.
3. Don't install the "handles" on the top of the unit, I'd like to put it under a pair of monitors. How tall is the unit without the handles?
In any case, your products look great, good luck with your new venture!

KJ & winetree Please report when you've had some time playing with the WM Deluxe! Would be great with a few before/after samples too!.. It looks super, but I'm out of rack space and have yet to learn the colour boxes I already have.. Btw mca when you've got used to playing in the NBA and things settle a little, perhaps you could look at designing a Mammoth colour for the Colour palette from DIYRE? store.diyrecordingequipment.com/colour/

Great. Think I'm definitely in for one of the WM units. Just need to decide which one to grab. Love the look of them. sure the sound will follow
mca what do you recommend to use on the Master buss for some extra flavour. Or should I say Mojo . Twin or deluxe? In conjunction with my VP28's, Lilpeqr eq's and this, stuff might get pretty dangerous
I'm also in Australia. any estimate on shipping would be great

Could you get away with using the standard Wooly Mammoth 2 channel unit since the knobs are stepped? Any issues with phase doing it this way? Thanks!

I think it's a problem for most of us. A couple nights on the couch ain't so bad when you're dreaming about new sounds....

In any case, your products look great, good luck with your new venture! 1. yes, 4 outs could happen but only on the deluxe size casing if we are strictly talking table-top version, due to amount of space on the rear panel. The Deluxe has a little more wiggle room back there, but the standard is already packed tight. 2. Phase reverse could be an easy option. To be honest, that will be included on an "mastering console" version that is in the works. I'll leave a lot of the details out of that one for now though. Polled a bunch of mastering engineer friends and each one of them had a lot of different requests on what they would want to see. 3. No worries on no handles. 4 less holes to drill! Without handles the units both table-top versions are roughly 2.5 inches (63.5mm)at the rear if you only slid the back half under, but if we are talking clearance at the top of the Knobs, it's roughly 2.9 inches (73.7mm). If spacing is an issue, you could also remove the rubber feet to squeeze maybe an extra 1/4" clearance. Thanks for the compliment! I am not opposed to custom work at all. That's what started this endeavor While this one wouldn't be too complex of a variation, I am holding off on any bigger custom pieces until after the initial run so that I can put all my focus on getting the units assembled efficiently. After it dies down a hair, I will be able to devote a little more time designing custom upgrades and one-off pieces. I love doing that sort of stuff. Keep in touch via email if you can. Thanks!

Now that you have mentioned it.. How heavy is the deluxe edition?? Roughly a hair over 14lbs. Which really isn't bad compared to the quad, which has twice as many transformers, which is where a lot of the weight comes from. I should say the Deluxe is roughly 14lbs unboxed, since many of the manufacturers advertise boxed weight. i guess 14 doesn't seem too bad, but if you compare it to 3U Tube Tech Cl1b that weighs 7 lbs, The Mammoth really is a Mammoth.

Could you get away with using the standard Wooly Mammoth 2 channel unit since the knobs are stepped? Any issues with phase doing it this way? Thanks! Unit7, I have toyed with the idea. Always loved the guys over at DIY. I don't own the colour modules but some very close engineer friends have built them all. I think I'd love them for tracking. If I hadn't been working on my own, in parallel to them working on theirs. I would already have all 4 of them I'm sure. Their end goal was very similar to mine, and I almost soiled myself when a friend pointed out that they divulged working on a Germanium diode based module just as I was fine tuning mine. Great guys over there. Odyssey, the stereo linking is a great question for you to ask. I will post more about this on the site when I update it soon. The outputs on the Twin and the Quad are not stepped. The goal for those was to try and offer a piece mostly based around tracking, and priced at a point where project and home studios could access it easy, since they are some of the people that need some sort of versatile anti-digital the most. unfortunately, stepped pots added a chunk of change. In my early prototyping stages, I would just leave both output pots up all the way, witch eliminates the internal resistor close enough to zero that it's negligible. Also, while the Twin has a little extra room in the middle, the quad ran out of room on the faceplate and a stepped pot was just too big to cram in. However.... The deluxe is basically my take on what I wanted to make with no holds barred, and no limits on pricing, although still a goal of being "affordable". While also being more flexible for something as delicate as bus duties. The design principles behind it are simplistic like everything I do, but just includes all the little variations that I had a hard time stripping down for the other models to keep them budget friendly. All this being said I did stumble upon a small affordable SMD stepped pot that is the same size as standard potentiometer. How they crammed it in that small of a space I do not know I am going to order a couple for testing. If for some reason they beat my expectations, they would probably add about $15 per channel to the units but I think that might be a worthy optional upgrade. If it works out, then I will offer it to all existing preorders as well. It's late in the game, but I'm always on the hunt for fun parts.

The Twin can work on bus duties, but was aimed at solo tracks for the most part. The outputs aren't linked. You can leave both outputs all the way up so they are basically unison though, and this is how I ran it anytime I was doing testing on stereo sources. The Deluxe however, was designed to be more workable on the master. The units do share most of the same features, but the Deluxe has a few components that I had to leave off the others to keep them at target pricepoint. The stereo linked output attenuator on the Deluxe is the same one I'm trusting in my Monitor controllers.

ha! I should stay out of this one as I've been there too. I love my wife and she is super supportive. But when we first were married, on the plane to our honeymoon she busted me buying a Soundelux ifet7 when we were supposed to be saving money. It made for a very tense honeymoon and was the start to many tiffs to come. Today I had somebody ask me not to put the packing slip/receipt in or on the box. I instantly understood why.

One last thing, I assume the deluxe can still be used for tracking (mono) and individual (solo) tracks at mixing time as well?same as the twin When will they be available? Will prob place my order in the next couple of days

Thank you and take care!

Well, I caved (pun intended) and grabbed the Deluxe Monitor Controller and Mammoth Quad. Looking forward to getting my hands on this stuff. (Note to self, make sure you order before you tell others about stuff or you'll have to wait longer for your stuff.)
