It'll never not annoying the shit out of me that a dude doing an audio based YouTube channel cant record his own voice over for shit. Like it's not that hard. But just fully of distortion and heavily denoised with something.
I didn't make it 30 seconds in.

He’s got all that great gear but often the audio seems thrown together, which creates the wrong impression. I think he is actually very knowledgeable and skilled.

Must be so the ad space buyer doesn’t get their mic one-upped by the VO mic.. all I can figure. And they must not want it to be used for VO?
It drives me nuts when people review a mic while holding it, speaking into some other mic. Like.. wow, is the mic so terrible it can’t do voice?
I kind of enjoy his videos otherwise.

The actual comparison was pretty decent. You might want to skip ahead to the vocal shootouts. At least for once, the mics of a shootout are pretty close in tone.
I'm so tired of whispery little voice female "singers" though...

Vocals sounded fine, acoustic clips sounded awful. There was some weird noise reduction or dithering or something happening? You have to realize the demographic of people watching his channel, most of them are only going to care about the vocals. I think he’s solid at the heavy rock/pop genera that he does in most of the videos, most of his hardware reviews have been helpful when I’m looking for clips. I think he’s a bit out of his comfort zone recording anything other than vocals.
That mic was a hard pass as soon as I heard Langston (Handsome Audio) did the transformer. I’m not touching anything with a 10 foot pole that that guy is involved in, he burned way too many people…

You’ll have to read through the saga on the purple site. There was a whole preorder debacle with some rack gear that never really existed or came out, I know a lot of people lost money. I hate bad mouthing companies on forums, but there’s enough info out there and pissed off people. I don’t think Langston set out to scam anyone, he just fumbled a lot of stuff and wasn’t upfront about what was going on. Again, bad enough to where I would steer clear of anything he’s involved in, I just see history repeating itself…

I'm not going to name shame, but I've had a few new mic companies out of nowhere "aggressively" contact me to do reviews. Lots of obvious overseas knock offs with laughable market jargon about being the next revolution in microphones. There's a lot of them out there right now... The fact that you can buy a Generic Chinese Mic that looks pretty good at first glance, hype it, probably make 400% for a while till the internet catches on, disappear, then reappear with just a slight investment in new badges and hype is a world of Newbies just asking for it. Now when you consider Telefunken USA, probably one of the most highly regarded and expensive builders did the same thing it’s comical. It’s actually kind of fun to comb the GC or MGR used pages to see some of these. |

In his defence, at the start of the video he's in someone else's studio to do the shoot out and clearly winging it with a laptop and some shitty USB mic. Once he's back at his own studio space it sounds to me to be a more normal audio quality for a YT blog. I'm not a fan of his channel or anything, but I think that might be the reason for the dreadful audio at the start. |

Not finding the Mixbustv vid any longer. However, here is a guy who indicated he had the prototype and now has the current issue version. He's using it on spoken word on a series of his vids, and gives another way to hear the mic.
And...goes on sale today.
