I have used regular Ziploc without any issues for 3 decades. On this one you are being more anal / analytical than I, highest praise intended because I haven’t even thought about it😁 First time I have seen "anal" and "highest praise" used in the same sentence - I am honored, or concerned, haven't figured out which yet....I will probably know around 3am. I’ll give you an idea of where the praise comes from, Mike Zirkel who was the manager of Smart studios once said my Mic cases “ were probably the most elegant, intelligent and anal approach.” For you guys using the tool chests where do you keep the chest? The reason I ask is that at every place I know who has kept one in the control room I always hear them vibrating, and as much as I love the concept the rattling always drives me nuts!

I’m in a tiny one room situation at the moment, so mine’s right here on the wall next to me. Mine is really full, so no rattling, but it does reflect audio more than my prior solution, mostly because it’s taller with more surface area. As soon as I have the opportunity, I’m going to have it out of the control room for that reason alone.

I use a Ruggard Electronic Dry Cabinet. I think they are designed for camera lenses and stuff like that. But it seems to work for mics. My room can get pretty humid in the summer, so that seemed like a good option for the condensers at least.
Dynamics and ribbons are in pelican-type cases or other similar cases lined with Kaizen foam that I custom cut for a snug fit. They are just stacked up next to all the other crap in my studio.

For those of you who travel with many expensive microphones, do you stuff them in a bag or is there a better way? Yes, there is. All my better mics have their own cases or wooden boxes.
And I never use a bag. Box or briefcase.
Harbor Freight has a line of molded plastic cases with foam rubber liners that are quite good and cheaper than Pelicans or other costly cases.

AHEM! You NEVER have too many mics! John, of course you are right. But when when the number went over 100 it started to look awkward. Thank god i got the excuse to have a bag of a few dozend mics more for live work as well, these don't count as studio mics. Also now and then i open a drawer at home or in the studio and, finding a few mics i have totally forgot i had ... plus a dozend mics in the workshop. I think it's a bit like with an alcoholic where they hide a few bottles here, a few bottles there...

Yes. They had them on sale last Monday for 1/2 price so I bought another one even though I didn't need it. The price was too good to pass up. Darn it. Now I have to get a mic for it. See what I did there?! In my world I call that GAStification.

A few nights ago, had a dream where I end up with a female recording enthusiast!!. Just imagine... SHE asks me "Honey can we get that (fill in the blank) $$ microphone?" Chris

Yeah, that had to be a dream. I wouldn't even have the slightest idea where you would find a woman like that. NAMM maybe??

I show my wife the pictures of (only the expensive) mics in the likes of TapeOp or other recording mags and ask her if she thinks i should buy this or that, based on how it would look in the studio. She says yes at least half of the time. My secret is, i always encourage her to buy nice things, if the money is there. Most of the times it's things that do not cost that much. Sometimes i take her to the flower shop or other places and say she can have what she wants, i'll pay. These are pennies compared to my mics. You know, public relations, kind of. It's way harder to convince her i have to buy preamps, compressors or other stuff.
Did i tell you she used to model when we were young? I'm a luck man.

I bought 2 double fronted, black metal lockers and filled them immediately. I still have power supplies and pelican cases everywhere. All of them have silica bags and most have wooden boxes. I just love microphones, since I gave up drinking and smoking 10 years ago they have become my strongest addiction.

I still have an addiction to brake fluid. But I can stop anytime I want to.
