Used these pretty extensively last night again and man - they are really pretty impressive. Loving the Emphasis knob on the LA2's that allows you to bypass low end compression. The "original" LA2 really adds an audible thickness to a signal.

They are very good plugs, and come close to approximating the real thing. While no plug-in comp has yet to nail the LA2A and 1176 real-life experience, certainly the UAD variety are as good as the Waves ones. Maybe in another 10 years, we won't be able to tell the difference, if they continue to advance the way they have the past 10 years.
The added bonus of the plugins is that they are also a great sales-pitch for buying the real thing. I remember, years ago, disliking LA3As because of their "grind"... after experimenting with the CL3A plugin, I realized I should give one another go. So I bought one off the late Jim Bentley and have finally "got" it.
So cheers for the UAD collection, if even for other reasons!

I think the MkII versions slay the CLA versions...and I thought the CLA versions were very usable. Just seems to me that they finally got the "grab" right with these...and they actually change the tone too - that LA2 really adds some weight.

The LA2 IMO is the closest software comp yet to the hardware experience as it has an effective eq thing it does just like real hardware. A quality hardware comp makes a signal sound better just by running it through. This plugin does that and it's very tweak-able to get the right dynamic. I love the new UAD models for instance count.

I use the LA2 automatically on every vocal,as if it's hardware. I print with it sparingly, and add more if I need to later. I have almost every Waves plug you can name, the original 1176 and LA2A UAD plugs were already a little better than the Waves versions, but the new LA2 upgrade just slays the Waves stuff. It's so good, it's a must have IMO. UAdDs EMT 140 and Ampex tape sim are in the same league to me. I've never taken to the 1176's though, maybe I'm using them wrong, but I doubt it. This vocal has the LA2 all over it, lead vocal, background, 4 harmony vocals: soundcloud.com/martin-john-butler/the-prayer-of-love-peace-and

That statement, by it's very nature, implies that you can go into your DAW and your input signal will pass through the plugin as if it were hardware before printing to disk. This puzzles me greatly.

In Cubase, you can put plugs on the input channel and record to disk...just limited by your buffer latency...

I don't think that's applicable in Pro Tools.

Apollo or any UAD2 card. I don't normally print with plugins though, just a touch of hardware compression on the way in. Using Cubase here also.
