There’s a shootout here somewhere where you can hear the BT’s against vintage 550, vintage 550A and new production. We all thought the BT sounded better than everything and was six and one half dozen with the 550.

Just curious: you love 500A's but sold/could live without the CAPI BT50s. Is there that big a difference? You mean 550A's? Yes, there was a big difference to me. I actually have/own A-1's that came out of Leon Russell's console, which are "theoretically" not as "good" as the A's - but I've use A's most of my life on the API consoles I worked on. I love those, but either way, I could never really get along with the BT's even though I tried all different kinds of opamps. I'm probably the only person though... Yeah sorry 550A's. I regularly use an old 550, 550A-1 and the latest versions so they're on my shortlist for my home setup (new one, can't justify the price of the A-1s). CAPI versions were as well so was curious about you selling them. thanks.

But it wasn't "all".

I wasn't speaking for you. I was speaking for the 4 people in the room.

I have never gotten on with API EQs. Neither the utility nor the feel.

I've had the Bettermaker Stereo Passive for the past 3 weeks, love the sound, great tone and low end only issue is it's a fixed stereo, realizing that I would flexibility for mono processing. The Stereo Mastering Eq would be a solution to my issue but I am not a fan of touch screens on expensive outboard gear and there is also the additional $1600 cost to upgrade. My sales rep feels that the Empress breaks up easily as you push the eq as opposed to the Bettermaker which in his opinion and so far in my experience is really smooth.
So circling back for some more feedback/guidance, I am considering these options:
-API 5500 stereo. Does this live in the "Pultec" space or close sonically (deep, full, low end and open "airy" highs) ? -Prometheus ( reconsidering) though from what I can tell its a bit "leaner" in tone compared to the Bettermaker.
@fm777 how long have you had the Mastering EQ ? How robust and responsive is the touch screen since you purchased it ?
Thanks
