How do you set the bg2 to sound clean and transparent? I have one I set mine to British mode at 600 ohm for a cleaner more hi-fi sound. What source do you use it mainly on? Mine is mostly on vocals, but I wish I could get another one. It sounds great even with the compression off! I dig it! Then again I could use it on any source with stellar results I set mine to Brit mod 600 ohm but still getting a to compressed sound. Especially for strumming. what is your input and output set to ? Slow attack? Release?

Does yours have the sidechain high pass filter? That might help it not be so grabby. Mine didn’t have that feature

No side chain or hi pass filter. It’s just to grabby for acoustic. Leaning towards getting the elop plus. Great support also.

For transparent, I’d go for the Buzz compressors, Leviathan (slight upper glow), or LA500/MAC (slight thickness).

Inward Connections The Brute or Tree Audio L/C1 are worth looking at. The Brute has been discontinued but can probably be found used, the L/C1 is the newer version with Ratio control. They don’t have tubes like most optos and are known to not affect the tone as much when compressing. Missing my Brute is what lead me to the Essence. In all honesty as much as I loved the Brute the Essence can do all it could and more, way more flexible and versatile.

I don’t own one, but I’m happy enough with my Audioscape not to worry about it. Not that they’re the same.

any thoughts on the heritage audio Tubessor? it looks like a CL1B replacement. Nice for tracking acoustic guitars.

Used my Langevin ELOP on duet vocals today. It just works. Pretty transparent. Wonder why I keep using other things.....

I haven't got extensive experience with various optos but I own and use CL1B for vocals and LA3s for guitar, bass (DI, no amps here) and mono synths. Chandler Opto is a cool one but it needs to be set carefully when recording.

The buzz stuff is made really really well. I doubt you’d run into issues with it.

Try to remember that harmonic distortion is part of the optical process and sound.
A used LA3a or new V3a are both fabulous.

I don’t have the side chain, but I did see one with variable release and attack

I heard the guys at Audioscape are really experts on Opto's. In fact they're Certified (just like me-but just slighty little different )... As Optometrists. You'll have a better chance of seeing the Charts ya know. Or doing well on iTunes. Chris

I wouldn't have any worries about buying Buzz Audio - they are extremely well made units likely to give you decades of trouble free service.
