This is way better than the UAD and no WUP like the Waves one they gave away for free a few years ago that nobody on a Mac can use anymore. Not as cool as their Weiss DS1 thought but Softube cannot give away the farm like Plugin Alliance did.

Funny enough, I had just decided not to go for the UAD version when it was on sale recently. The universe provides!

I just tried it quickly on a drum bus, it sounds surprisingly good! To me better than AA Grey & UAD.

have not tried it in a mix yet, but I like the knobs it has (like the variable HPF, side chain filters, HF makeup, and Wha... Phase whatchmacallit?)

I finally got this installed and am well pleased with it, although I never did get the all-singing/all-dancing Softube Installer working (it installed 1st time, but persistently displayed errors when attempting to installing the subsequent iLok part, so in the end I just ran the iLok License Manager manually, and then downloaded the VCA Compressor plug-in file separately).

Took a long while to download: server demand.
Dropped it on some problematic vocals, worked great, seems clearer, more transparent then ua 76, very pleased.

There’s a backend piece of software/helper for ST installer to work properly, I got a pop up about needing to install it, never seen that before, maybe you needed that ?

I did not like their installer. Once again a company that insists on installing an installer to get the installer. I much prefer when I can just get the individual downloads for the piece I actually want.

At least we're not forced to download their whole line of plugs just to authorize one.

Yeah, the whole installer thing almost killed it for me. I got through it but man - how convoluted do you need to make things for your customers.....

And as we know Ua connect is spying on us, makes you wonder what’s hidden away in the “helpful “, installer/ plug Mgt code ?

Once we have the plug(s) we want, I assume we can always uninstall the installer.
Seems like a lot of work for one plug but if it's free and useful, likely worth it.

I’m pretty sure you can just download the installer off the product installer page. That’s what I’ve done with other softube plugs because I didn’t want to bother with their app thing. www.softube.com/installers

It’s a good, useful plug, but I think you can just download from website. I had 5-6,others all with updates , so using the installer was more efficient, but, who knows what’s going on under the hood ?

Uh oh. I better install it when I'm in happy-even silly mood. Which is so rare for me. Too bad Softube. Isn't Softsell. Always enjoyed their "Tainted Love"/"Where Did Our Love Go" hit! Chris

I downloaded the individual installers for mine (which also indicates the version I have installed). btw, I used this over the weekend for a drum bus (on a couple different tracks) and I liked it. really does that smack/thwack thing well. the extra filters are cool. still not sure about the phase shift (or at least haven't played with it enough to figure out where that might come in handy)

I followed Bryce's suggestion and used the individual Installer. Installed, opened PT and linked VCA to my iLok and opened a project. I tried it on bass and just goofed a bit, and It sounds pretty nice.

I've been using this for a few weeks now. mostly just on parallel drums and I gotta say it's the best money I didn't spend in awhile. And even if it wasn't free I'm liking it a lot. I need to venture out and try it on a few other sources too.
