Sounds cool. Your sound is more mid forward. The TP demos are more scooped. You’re also mellower now than the TP demos. The TP guitars also sound like they might be mic’d from above a little bit, firing down toward the guitar. Maybe even over and in front of your right shoulder as you’re playing. I gave this a shot and I really like how it turned out, thank you for the suggestion! I also did a little match EQ with the original just so I could understand what was going on a little better, then tried to mimic what the match EQ was telling me with some broader curves. Of course it's not exactly right but it's a great starting point if I'm ever recording something that needs this kind of treatment. Please excuse my crummy guitar playing. drive.google.com/file/d/1ovNBkarMQBuA2sDsaAs9m_ofW_5ws8uO/view?usp=sharingAnd then same kind of match EQ treatment in front. I didn't like this as much but not without its merits. drive.google.com/file/d/1Vw91bQa1s0iKlZ81IGsiMguJ4ZOuy6Tg/view?usp=sharingHow about a combination of both? This is really nice and starts to get into a lot of the layering that's on these demos: drive.google.com/file/d/1yDzRl6aPteWQ0QkKETlEfHQg5Nmz-dpP/view?usp=sharingThis was a fun way to spend a day and a half! Thanks to everyone who chimed in for all your comments and suggestions. This sounds cool, but it sounds like we've brightened up too much. Also, try picking a little closer to the bridge and a little further from the neck/soundhole.

This is nice! I prefer A, by a not huge margin. I like where the top end is sitting.

Thanks again for all the feedback! Would you believe A is the Oktava MK012, after trying out seven or eight other mics? I remembered I have a hypercardioid capsule and thought that might put a touch less room sound it - didn't A/B with the regular cardioid so it might not have made any difference. It also sounds a little more 3-D to my ears. B is still the m201, with a perfectly cromulent sound.

Wish I still had them.

First, get a great Martin acoustic. Next, a Neumann, 47,67, or 87, , then get an API or Neve preamp, use quite a bit of compression and you're there.
You can use substitutes for the mics and clones for the preamp, but you must have either a great Martin or top of the line Gibson.

I bought a Martin D-18. Because when I was in the store I strummed an open Em chord and immediately I knew "that" sound from a thousand records Those D-18's record like a dream imho. Millennia STT-1 tube pre or 1073 pre and a Schoeps CM4 - really dry, articulate and woody - sounds great for my tastes. I'd love to get an API 312 to try with it too.

Instant acoustic Stones sound.

These are the best samples so far and I agree that I like A best as well. I think you need a little more gain overall but it is getting fairly close to the TP and enough to be very pleasing. Sounds nice. To get more there, I would add a little top shelf and a small amount of bottom end. Fine as is. Artistic choice to me. I farted around in the DAW a bit withe the sample. I threw they SSL Vintage drive on it and the MAG EQ, adding some 160, pulling out 650 and 2.5 and then adding a bit of 10K. I then hit the SHMC @ about 1db of GR on both sides and still felt fun with the FabFilter EQ pulling a wide but gentle dip, 1-2 DB in the uppermids (forgot where). That sounded fun. Great clips, however you slice them.
