Honestly I wish I had the time access and cash to dig into Lewitt and AA, itâs not like the old days where the rep would just leave a bunch of mics and say â go playâ. They told me to "go play" at NAMM. (On the 405 Freeway nearby)

Having demoed a 107 next to an 87 and 102 and 170, it sure is. It was a ball of overdone midrange cringe. . . kind of like a frozen ball of rockyroad covered in Demerara sugar, then caramel, then chocolate syrup and powdered sugar, topped with crushed Christmas candy - just too much of a good thing. You may choose to follow me, agree or not, totally up to you.

Iâve got the OC818 and OC18, theyâre very useful mics. Certainly nicer than recent production 414s đ¤

I havenât had a chance to use one of the old 414EB, sadly! A pair recently came up on the local trade and exchange but I wasnât in a position to grab them.

If you get a chance, the EB with brass ring CK12 really is a wonderful thing.

Though it did sound very good on a mark tree. The weirdest Sennhesier mic I tried was the M147 - I considered takes the head basket off to check if it had an old sock stuck in it - talk about woolly sounding !! Sennhesier have made some pretty odd sounding mics under the Neumann badge.

The problem with samples on the web are 2 fold, first I hate to say this but if you search hard enough you will find a voice that will work on just about any mic. Second donât care what you say or show I really donât know what processing you used.

Since this thread seems to have been revived: why no comments on the Heiserman version of the 414? I really like the H47tube so it's been on my radar since, but it wasn't even mentioned in this thread (unless I missed it). Anybody have any experience with it? Can compare to various AKG models or the AA options? Quite curious! Thanks!

Point me toward one current mic that sounds exactly like this 414EB & I'll buy it on the spot !
A few distorted spots here and there (preamp/converter related probably or the capsule is struggling) but otherwise I really like the 414EB pure & rich sound...
No fuss, no sparkles or preciousness, no bells & whistles. A pure, tidy, in your face, sound.
This would sound good on my voice. Pfff they sell for way too much now. We youngsters are doomed.

This is like waving the Red Flag in front of me-ahem-the Bull. "Ketchup" n' jokes later Amigos! BTW...Ben Sneesby (modestly) told me, they make the most CK12 capsules-in the world! I had no idea. We're lucky to have both Eric Heiserman and Ben Sneesby doing their thang!Chris

That's not an EB. There are buttons on that mic. That's some variation of a modern 414.

I'm no expert, but the EB has two switches, "a 3 position Attenuator switch (0,-10,-20dB) and 3 position Bass roll-off switch (Flat, 75, 150Hz)". (source www.saturn-sound.com/curio%27s/story%20of%20the%20akg%20c414.htm)www.saturn-sound.com/images%20-%20microphones/c414eb.jpgNow I noticed that the grid is gold, the body and the buttons/switches all silver, which is weird. I still think that it's an old model based on the sweet sound. The modern ones don't sound like this sweet. The new AKG 414 don't have transformers, I find they have less "depth" for a lack of a better word. I actually asked the channel in the Youtube comments, maybe I'll have some more infos at some point . . .
