Keepin em in good condition takes a lot of work. Gigging with one is very difficult. I eventually got rid of both of mine. I do miss the early 60's wooden one. But it would have taken a ton of money to get it into good shape.

I never let my one go out for a gig / or out of the studio - stays stable and records great Once you get a good one, its surprising how little maintenance they need.

Ever since I had Murph Wanca here in Nashville go through mine a few years ago, it has played like a dream and required zero maintenance. I would never think about gigging with it though.

I've had a 200 for almost 20 years now (damn, time is flyin).
It was in sorry shape when I got it. It's been completely rebuilt now. Getting all the mechanical in a good spot (keybed levelled and vacuumed out, and action consistent top to bottom) was the first step. I rebuilt the original amp board, and eventually put a vintage vibe replacement in. Once the mechanical and electronics were in a good spot, it took a bit to get the hang of voicing it.
If you have an older Wurli, Vintage Vibe has really high quality parts and excellent videos on youtube. If you have a reed that doesn't sit right, ordering a pretuned reed from them is a godsend. I'm a patient person, but I don't have that kind of time.
It sounds and plays like a dream now, one of my favorite instruments to just sit down and create on (you start plunkin, and cool stuff just comes out).
Will be interesting to see how true to the original design, in terms of mechanical, they choose to implement.
Regards
Jon

I'd be surprised and disappointed if this is digital. Wurlitzer is apparently owned by Gibson now for what that's worth. The emulations have gotten so good, I can't imagine they could sell many if it's just digital.

Well, if it’s a $399 Wurli in that badass form factor…I might have to get it just for the sweet pics it would be in…

I've been looking for an original Wurlitzer for a while now. Seems to be quite rare in Sweden. Pricewise I'm guessing 5k+ looking at what the Rhodes mk8 cost. If it would cost 3k that would be awesome.

If it's a real electromechanical keyboard, I think it will be in the 5K range.

Bought a brand new one right out of high school in '77 (no gigging) & had nothing but problems. Bought a Rhodes (different animal, I know) years later & gigged every weekend with no problems at all.

Id want the real thing but they're rare and expensive. Still looking though haha

Btw - my guess is $1500 plus If it’s “real”, and I bet it is, I’m guessing $5000 minimum. That’s based on what a new rhodes would go for from Vintage Vibes, or any of the other new rhodes that have been released over the years.

I came across a guy here through eBay that sold me cheap in mint restored condition Roy Bitten’s suitcase Rhodes with speaker, documents and a mint beige Wurli with the vibrato speed mod. Unbelievable. I snapped them up. They had just been done up by Ken Rich.

I had the suitcase Rhodes in 1973 and used two fender twin amps for stereo effect - or at least I thought it was. Anyway, is there a remake of the Rhodes that is really good - not digital - with tines, etc. ? I know this is a little bit off topic - but close to an electric piano topic!

There’s the new Rhodes that came out last year or the Vinateg Vibe.

I think someone I know has been testing these new ones. I was under the impression they were going to be closer to $10k, I don’t think it’s going to be an affordable option…

Who does the company think they're selling to? Companies that are making a niche product know EXACTLY who they are selling to - a tiny handful of folks with lots of expendable income, with a handful of mega brand loyalists thrown in. They likely don't care about volume at all. The new Rhodes is over $13,000! For them, if they sell 50 a year, 2-3 employees can make a decent income. They aren't trying to be the next Warm Audio or whatever.

I know probably 10 people back in the SF Bay Area that would jump on these regardless of the price, I think you would be surprised. I’m with you, at face value it seems like a stretch, but there’s a lot of people on this rock
