I can talk about this now as it's now official. There is a new mojo module from LTL. TAPE•79. Self explanatory I think. Super excited to dig into this one. Theres really no hardware TAPE options that are worth their salt IMO. Except the king which is not really in production to my knowledge. more details please. Thats a ton of C mojo choices now. Be hard to pick and as much fun and cool as it would be to have multiple SB(like someone we know..) it's not very financially viable. Makes me wish it operated like the Colour Duo so you could swap them easily. Sure - but I'm going to have to the press release link you to the "other" site..... gearspace.com/board/new-product-alert/1422186-louder-than-liftoff-tapeo79-module-silver-bullet-mk2.html

- A very interesting LTL NAMM Release. I believe Brad will pull the lid off tomorrow. Not at the show, but I have one that just arrived a few days ago. Something folks have been asking for since almost forever, but one that no one seems to make in hardware. Again for SB mk2. I believe drsax was using one as well before he took off for NAMM. Theres really no hardware TAPE options that are worth their salt IMO. Except the king which is not really in production to my knowledge. I was hoping for this. May even posted about it. I hope it is up there with the Anamod. Who knows - maybe better! This can be a game changer!

I can't believe how many 670 clones have popped up in the last 2 years. Lot of options. Faircomp looks nice. Still spendy. LTLO thing looks cool. Be interested to hear it. Gonna be a lot of options for that box now, be hard to pick. Wes Audio's new EQ looks awesome. Recall control. Kind of a massive passive unit. wesaudio.com/product/ngtubeeq/Craneborne release a 2u version of the harmonic EQ also with digital control. Looks cool. www.cranborne-audio.com/carnabyhe2Avid teased some cool new features coming. Not really NAMM but Wavelab 12 came out, some nice updates. If your there, go listen to the Genelec 8381a speakers, my babies. I must be the odd one out. I’ve never really cared for the sound of the 670.

There is certainly plenty of options now for those that do. I think it's probably one of those things you have to actually use to get a love. Not a plugin. Ssl buss comp was like that for me. Didn't like the plugin. Got to use one on a duality and became familiar with it. Now love it. But yeah. Not for everyone. I can't afford any of the good clones anyways ha

AudioScape is proud to announce the modern relaunch of Modular Audio Products, otherwise known as MAP. The first release for MAP (Powered by AudioScape) will be the DAM-27 dual preamp, based on the old Melcor AM-27 preamp. Each channel features our proprietary, in-house manufactured, MAP 1731 all-discrete class A op amp, as used in the original AM-27. These were the first op amps used in audio gear, by Melcor Industries, in the late 1960’s. Each of today’s MAP 1731 op amps features the same carbon composition resistors and transistors as originally used. The DAM-27 is like having a NOS AM-27 built 50 years ago . It has that unmistakable harmonic sheen and midrange richness.
Price: $899.00 Available: Early Summer (maybe sooner)
Dual channel 899$ damn nice price !

Synths were not on my NAMM bingo card, but I came across this company out of IL called MuSonics, and they have this 2600-style synth called Vanilla. All hand built and just looks like a ton of fun for recording. Kinda big for giging, but I'm sure if you'd want to go this route you'd be prepared for that.

Soyuz has a new preamp, as well as a smaller pair of transformerless small cap mics. Also have an Ambisonic mic with 4 capsules from the 013, all transformer circuits al well. I’m excited about all of those!

But if it doesn't... Think of all that potential Banjo player demand out there! Hey, watch it with the Banjo jokes, I might resemble those remarks! Besides, everyone knows a banjo makes great kindling for an accordion fire.

I can't afford any of the good clones anyways ha I have several vari Mu compressors so I like the style of comp but personally I’ve never been a fan of the hardware 670 tone and action. Of course, some people love them and so there is a very healthy clone market. My Phoenix MP has a very different tone and action to a 670 but still has that vari-mu width and gloss. It probably comes down to genre of music your making.

I really dig the MG20 and having a omni version of that would be sweet. That LDC looks nice as well! Is that a carbon fiber body or just looks that way?

While I visited-even hung out a bit with some non-Mic "Signal Chain" Hardware Booths... My personal Mic Booth gravitation was Beesneez*/Heiserman/AEA/Cloud/Sontronics (Sigma 2 Ribbon)/Samar. One of the non-Mic Booths had an OG Bock 251. It was bittersweet to sing into. Like the Beesneez and Heiserman CK12 mic Masters (well everything those guys make ) it's wonderful too. With it's own spin. But I feel even more certain the newee UA isn't quite on the same level. Ben's C12a Tube seemed to enhance "solidity" in my Low and Middle parts of my voice. With that "Shimmer" up top. Very cool. Always had and have a soft spot for 47 FET styles. And between the Transformerless Oliver FET, and the Elly (has Transformer)... Choosed the Elly. Slight lean on that one, on my usual Baritone/2nd Tenor voice. *I helped Ben and his Family over there, partly by singing into the mics (in a couple of Vocal Registers-including Soprano sometimes LOL!) So either "quiet" Singers/Speakers could hear a variety of mics. And also those recording other Singers. Chris P.S. Due to the A/C, I drank a ton of water. For some strange reason, today and yesterday... My voice shifted up a half to full step above normal. Baritone higher//less full/lots of 1st Tenor Keys! The recent Beesneez C12a (414-ish body shape) was great to finally try out.

I did a relatively short tour of NAMM on Friday—2-6PM. But enough that I didn't feel the need to god back this weekend.
As mentioned elsewhere, I did spend some time with the Beesneez BU67-269, which I liked. I spent some time at Warm, trying out all their LDCs...the WA67 sounded pretty nice (not 100% authentic perhaps, but it sounded good); the -47 was pretty meh; the C12 was a bit tantalizing but a little sterile, similar for their 251...I liked their -8000 on my voice, again I don't think it's quite accurate. Bear in mind I'm not a recording engineer, I know most of these mics by listening to material that used them. I was more reviewing them as "do I sound good through this?", and that boiled down to the 67 and maybe the 8000 as ones I'd plunk down the cash if I need one right now and it had to be done at the Warm booth. But I'd rather pay a few hundred more and get the Beesneez.
Also at Warm, I checked out their CL-1B. It sounded pretty decent. I should stress again that my main goal was to get knowledge of what various products from various manufactures sound like. I don't know what a CL-1B should sound like, but I know what sounds sucky.
I had free rein at Telefunken, so it was nice to get an overview of their mics, some of which I had been curious about (Copperhead, for instance). I thought a number of them sounded good on my voice. Including their 47, so that kind of cemented that the Warm 47 just wasn't that good (for me at least, no offense to owners).
So many other mics...I've never had it so easy at NAMM testing mics...
Saw the Footprint03 monitors from Barefoot ($2k/pr), at Vintage King's pre-NAMM Wednesday and chatted with the rep, and saw the cutaway (for internal viewing) at the show. But never heard them. Nice feature to switch between responses.
Yamaha superseded my P-515 piano with the P-525. Lighter action, though the corners of the black keys seemed sharper. They say they improved the samples, it sounded like a P-515 and was identical in appearance, it seemed the action was the main change, as it had a reputation for being a little heavy.
Oh and the AI voices—Synthesizer AI Studio and ACE studio...both sounded impressive. ACE Studio, at least, could be trained with your own voice. But it might require help on their end, as I noticed there was a sign-up sheet for priority AI training.

It looks more theoretical than functional at this point . . . curiosity might pique too early thus lessening the potential marketplace impact. But they're a solid company with a host of great products. I'm just surprised at their false start launch strategy.

A remotely controllable preamp + dynamic eq + comp + colour combo is very interesting. The monitoring section is a nice addition, but hardly indispensable. Could they also offer a simpler version without the many headphone amps etc ? I'd like that.

The HUM Audio Devices N-trophy console looked interesting! Not that I’ll ever be able to afford one! does look interesting. the modularity looks nice and well thought out, but the layout of the strips seems to be pretty crowded - lots of knobs in a small space, but then 500 series has that too so maybe that's just how it is now.
