What the hell do I do with these? I've been storing them for years.

I'm currently cleaning out the attic and am finding some of these myself! It's wild how much has changed since that time. I got a good laugh at the girls dressed like French maids on the slate discs 🤣

10-4 I've been going through old computer discs this past week hit me up if anyone needs a 3.5 floppy drive and windars Vista Ultimate (it sucked so bad I never installed it - activation is still unused) on the other hand the Adobe Photoshop and Premiere elements 10 discs are useful for reinstall purposes they allow two installations per license and you can deactivate and move to another system...it's like they are almost being reasonable and making sense with that kind of policy.
Later versions got rid of the RAW file type so this one is better for some uses

Lol, about a year ago got a NOS set of 3.5" floppys for my Ensoniq Mirage. But cracking up at the OP's photo. Man, what an issue we all have. The "what do I do with all this old shit" can be overwhelming, especially when attics get involved.
Been a couple of years but I've used Greendisk a few times over the last decade. I have never vetted them out but have felt some massive relief sending a box of unusable stuff to them. YMMV! Funny, but their website is still almost the same as it was over a decade ago.

I just feel so guilty chucking this stuff in the landfill. Partly because of my eco-responsibility, and partly because I know how much I spent on this stuff. And I don’t use these anymore, aside from Melodyne and Pianoteq. I’ll probably recycle what I can and toss the rest. I mean, there’s no good reason to keep it, right? It’s all downloads now, besides the fact that these versions are grossly incompatible with todays OS.

I’m pretty sure I’ve got the Pro Tools 7 box floating around…
While I’m dating myself, I just bought a new DVD player, as our 20-year old one crapped out in the middle of a Northern Exposure episode.

And then remind yourself that *that’s* what you were buying anyway: the serial. Might help in tossing them out. …says I, with a Joe Barresi Evil Drums box on the floor under my dresser I just noticed the other day…

Yeah, just moved some Superior Drummer and Logic boxes from the drawer under the racks to a bookcase. Why keep them? They dont take up much space but they really should just go.
Cheers, Geoff

If you have some old sessions you need to recall and do stems or a remix or something. It is extremely hard to track down some of those old installers and in some cases it took me months of communicating with the software companies to get everything up and running again. For that purpose, I have a "vintage" rig that is a 2012 Mac Pro with a Pro Tools TDM system installed. It's rare that I ever need to go that far back in time but I guess once you hit the 20 year mark on some of these albums bands start to get nostalgic. Anyway...not trying to make you hoard stuff haha but just a thought.

Waves and Sonnox (Sony) never improved beyond the boxed software era. McDSP were never great and never got any better hahahahaha

Anyway...not trying to make you hoard stuff haha but just a thought. Did a live recording on Thursday of a cabaret show put on by one of the original cast members of Grease on Broadway. She asked for a CD of it, bless her heart, so I had to boot up an old 2010 MBP from the stock CD burner era this morning. Saw a burn playlist on there from 2015, which was actually a remix of an adat session from 1995 which they came back 20 years later exactly to do. I had several 90s era bands contact me around that time frame for either remixes, or in one case get together and recut a track that didn't make the original release. Memories... so yeah, I still have a working adat XT, Mackie 24-track hard disk recorder, MOTU AudioDesk on OS9 Power Mac, PT9 on Snow Leopard MacBook... software boxes... I wish that was all I had stowed away.

My home studio progression went something like Tascam 4-track(cassette) then the Roland VS880 and later the 1680 hard disk recorders(Iomega Jaz Drives LOL!), then a Mackie 8 Buss - ADAT, then Mackie HDR24 + D8B, then iZ Radar 24...then Pro Tools. Something like that from best I can remember, good times 😁

They're old in computer years haha but I will say when I opened up the side to install these TDM cards, it made me miss how easily customizable those machines were! Put whatever size hard drive or extra hard drives in it, easily upgrade the ram, install Pro Tools cards right inside the machine...ah the good ol' days before chassis and dongles everywhere. It may just be nostalgia but those are still my favorite Mac Pros.

I just threw all my boxed software away - non of it is useful anymore as it's either obsolete, on HHD and SSD's or downloadable as the latest version.
It was about 100 DVD's worth and a dozen or so boxes.
Made some shelf space.

Funny, I just chucked my old disks last week. Now I hav to decide if I want to keep 500 CD's or just upload them.
I dumped all the plastic boxes, put them in cases, but they still take up more room than I can spare in my new downsized apartment.

Still work great, although I'm definitely thinking of upgrading to a new Mac Pro or Studio if money allows this year..... software has improved greatly since then: virtual analog state variable filters, multirate dynamics software covering the full audible bandwidth, Weiss being ported to native, a few innovative dynamics processors and restoration tools. Meanwhile innovative hardware has mostly disappeared to the point where the oeksound plugins were designed to clean up chinese condensers and the 1176.
