Left not-quite-Nashville-chilly Dallas today for a family getaway with the gas to our house cut late last night due to a leak. My brother-in-law thankfully was able to be there for the one of eight plumbers I called that could make it out today to see what's up (#grateful). Every plumbing business in Dallas seems to be overwhelmed with broken pipe calls and are booked until middle of next week. Fortunately, turns out our issue is from the meter to the house so no jackhammering shitshow required.
Lessons learned though: 1. Don't call the gas company with a gas leak. Call a plumber first. They're experts as well and can do the same to address the problem. The gas company cut it off (rightfully so) but now we have to get the plumbers to pull a permit with the city to get the gas back on. 2. Have the plumber help drain all the pipes and set the house up for a freeze. We're gone for a few more days and it's going to drop down again in Dallas so great not to come back to flooding hell.
Not going to even go into the bill that's coming for trenching a new line. We knew it would be bad, but wow. Not shocking that there's an uptick in vocational school attendance these days. You can make a hell of a career in the trades and I wish I had more of those skills.
Edit: someone cancelled as I was on the phone with company number 8. "Hang on, we might have someone..." Should have bought a lottery ticket today as well.
