Interesting review. Which microphone did the 622 seem to like/help best?
I'm sorry ward, gonna have to apologise. You know how it is, you get used to something and then it becomes apparent. The Beyer M88 is rocking it with this amp and that's defo a positive for me because it's easy to use. Next is the ISK Little Gem and TF 251 (not the far more expensive 2B MK2), honestly not sure there but they both sound great. Let's put it this way my favourite mic with the Shelford was the ISK 2B and I don't really love dynamics but man the M88 + 622 is like match made in heaven.
Sure the M88 is an awesome mic anyway but I never thought the day would come when I preferred a dynamic to a 251. Maybe I'm going crazy, whatever.. Just to note, I didn't actually care much for the 2B with the 622. That's odd to me, again with the Shelford it was stunning.
The M88 -IAA preamp combo does not suck. It works exceptionally well on vocals when paired with my UM 70 (in figure eight) on acoustic guitar for my little singer songwriter videos I have been doing for my songs.
edited to add: and like ShadowK, I keep thinking well, to be sure I should use my Gefell UM92.1s but the M88 just does the job so simply and easily for these knock them on out videos. If a I were tracking some shit that I was gonna be sending out to be mixed then sure, but I am wanting to finish a bunch of these quick and this combo rocks for playing and singing at the same time. Plus, you can see me. .
You guys realize this thread will lead nowhere and solve nothing, right?----Johnkenn Well shit, I mean, that describes about half the stuff I've ever done---- ragan

I've not been completely stagnant over the last decade, I have been involved in the more eastern super shiny hi-fi pop sorta thing and generally dynamics suck at that genre (C800, 251 or a U89 (with lots of processing) that's where that genre lives. So that's kind of where my mindset comes from in regards to dynamics but my engineering mate says the IAA + M88 sounds like me and usually to get a sample of "me" I'd be looking for a stupidly priced TLM 170 which is going here for about $3K nowadays.
I mean with monitors the M88 has just about as much feedback as condenser so that says something, I'm not sure what it says but that's urr something. Anyway, I would happily use this mic on Vox, bass or some other instruments for the super shiny overly produced music with the IAA. Also despite my engineering mate saying it sounds like me I personally think it does helps a bit, takes the edge off maybe like most dynamics do but it's not without a lack of clarity or sensitivity either. This combo has thrown my world into dissarray, also as we are learning things it turns out the SSL's big six VCA one knob sounded super umm awesome with this combo, don't get me started on the SSL "proper" VCA. I think there's literally one thing I don't like about the BS now and it's the thing it's most tooted for, the preamps.
My word Beyer, you like to make things interesting. They always proclaimed the Senn MD441 as the "condenser" replacement but I think they really got it wrong.
