I haven't had the change to use any of locomotive's products yet, but from the reviews, they seem to knock it out the park every time. Yup. I own 7 Locomotive products, and every one is a home run! (2) 14B's (2) WT Comps (2) WT72's (older black ones) (1) Original 286a pres All a 2 thumbs up... What do you use your WT comps on? I've listened to many samples wanting to like it because the price is so attractive, but IMHO it doesn't have the sound or even gets in the same territory of a Manley Vari-Mu or a Highland Dynamics comp. Do you use them for something in particular?

Hey guys, I just posted a video with the WT-72. What a great sounding unit! I also compared it to my vintage Neve 1272 so you guys can get a good reference. To my ears the WT72 displays the classic sound of a tube preamp, open midrange and a nice beefy low-end. You can download the raw files if you guys really want to dig deep. Oh I also used my GAP 251 which I recently installed a 6072 5* tube and it sounds freaking fantastic now. Especially dig it in fig. 8 since it's a bit more laid back around 2-3khz. I kept swapping between both as some lines work better on each. I wasn’t a huge fan of the WT after owning Coil’s, REDD 47’s and Tree’s but for the money it’s a good bold sound.

Agreed. Open? Yes. Bright? No. I think a lot of people expect tube gear to sound covered and dark. Not necessarily so. My experience has been tube pres tend to be brighter than SS. Yep, and that's the beauty of the Coil CA-70s .... it's got everything you love about tube pre's and then you can just dial in the smokeynous (is that even a word?) to taste. Dark and smokey to open and fresh sounding - it's just so flexible. I honestly think the CA-70 is the GOAT mic pre

Do you use them for something in particular? One could argue that the Manley and HD don't have the sound of the Weight Tank Different tools for different jobs. And different price points! WT Comp on bass guitar is excellent. And vocals often sound awesome.I'd never use them on a mix buss though.
