I like 2 the most. Then 1, 3 and 4. A different voice could easily sway me another way.

Singer's voice sounded really nice on all, but I liked the H47 best and the 251 second.

#2/249 was my fave. Will be re-listening though. Good ear practice.
I do agree that some high octane singing would be cool on all four mics. (I did like the Modded 87 the least) Very nice voice and singing in any event. Chris

3, 1, 2, 4 was mine. I guessed them all. 3 Was warmer than I expected the 251 to be really, but it does have the Heiserman sound. I knew it was a bit brighter than the H47 though. 1 was so similar to the H251 they are almost identical in some places. The mellower tone gave it away though. 2 Was a bit sibilant on his voice but had a nice Neumann warmth. Sounded nothing like the others. 4 Was shit. Overrated cack. A straight 87 would sound better. I really enjoyed the song and his voice. IMHO the singer was too close for the Mic #2/249. I have the same issue that close sometimes. That was the mic sound/general tone, that my lean went to. We just found out my local Buddy's Vintage 87, was modded internally aong time ago. It'd be interesting to some informal testing, versus some of my mics eventually. Chris

Oddly, my picks (from Paul's share to another forum) were: H47 Inter tube (it didn't tickle the inner ear as much) H251 M249
But my hyper-sensitivity to sibilance and things about 12k is a factor in that. Also a factor is the singer. Different singer, different picks.

Chris That’s the trouble with shootouts like this. It was probably perfect for the Heisermen and too close for him on the 249. Strange though M49’s react really well to close proximity and soft singers. Like U47’s. All I know is for modern mics Heiserman has one of the best all round classic sounds out of the box.

I'm like the 3 Pack-a-Day Smoker who finally/totally quits Smoking...* Recently David Rick (Rightfully) busted me for singing too close. And Gene Michael Hall for (once more Rightfully) poor "distance" technique. Of course they could BOTH be wrong after all. LOL! Chris *Non-Smoker to begin with here. Almost all my family were heavy smokers.
