Any new opinions on studio chairs for engineers? I need to replace a couple old ones that squeak. At my day job, I have a Herman Miller Aeron B. I know everyone loves them but the front edge is kind of hard and bugs my legs after a while. I also find that it's not all that quiet when I lean back. Maybe it needs a lube job.
I'm looking for something that supports my back. I have disk issues so I am rarely comfortable. I have a one room studio, so "no squeaks" is super important. Usually the singers are withing 6 feet of me. Drummers are about 15' away.. but no one cares about them anyway. :-) just kidding
The Stealth Pro looks interesting but some reviews say it's noisy as well. Steelcase chairs? I'd like to stay under $700 per chair if possible.

Seriously looking at the Stealth Standard and The Stealth Pro Executive. That gives me one of each style. Sweetwater has them in stock. hmmmm.... This or another microphone.

On the Herman Miller Mirra 2, notably, you can tilt and modify the front edge of the sit. It's said to be quite confy, less hard-edged than the Aeron. I have not tried it, but it could work for you maybe ? It's cheaper than the Aeron, too.

Thanks for the suggestion lowlou. I decided to give the Stealth a shot and ordered from Sweetwater. I will give back a report. They have a return policy so I'm covered in case I don't like it. On a side note, its hard to pay that much for something that isn't a microphone or compressor or... directly related to making music.

I've been on the Aeron for a decade, and just added a Herman Miller Embody as my main saddle. So far I really dig it.

Just be McScottish and buy a chair or bench from Costco and save $650 I kid, I kid . . . but I am using a $79 chair from Costco and it works just fine!

I've had the same chair for almost 30 years. No real support at all but its big enough to fall asleep in. I think it's a Lazy Boy... or maybe that's just me. I blew out three disks loading in for a show 6 years ago, so i have to try to get something that might help with the pain a little. I am a bit nervous about the purchase but I will give it a shot. I am super familiar with Herman Miller Aeron chairs. We have dozens at work. I just don't find it to be all that comfortable. If the Stealth doesn't work out.. I am heading to Costco.

Still using 5 of the old $99.00 Costco mesh chairs for years.
No problems, rips or tears.
If so they are returnable.

OK, listen carefully find a bank that is going to fail, now scout the nearest location , now slip the janitor a $50 and ask about those mic HM chairs!

I bought a mesh Com Homa chair from Amazon a year and half ago and I've been really happy with it. Lumbar support and a headrest that works really well when tilting back. It actually give my back a nice stretch. I just looked and the model isn't for sale anymore. This one is similar, but mine has a 3 piece back. link

There are 2 sitting In offices of a closed OBC branch I walk by everyday. I’m just waiting to see them in the dumpster, I always make sure I have $50 cash to bribe the cleaners.

I have two Herman Millers: the Aeron and the Mira. I love both, but I think I prefer the Mira. Pretty different than the Aeron; for me, it provides better support. I never even think about it when I'm in it, and it can be for hours on end.

Do you know if the eChair’s arms can be removed?

I'd like to know this, too. Also, is the eChair a rebranded Stealth chair ? They are the same chair, right ?

The Stealth chairs just arrived. I'm going through the assembly process and I will report back.

Stealth Pro Executive on the left and a Herman Miller Aeron on the right. Very, very different chairs. The Stealth has much better lower back support and is very easily adjusted. It has a tighter feel than the Herman Miller. The Aeron is kind of like an old Cadillac, where everything is a bit squishy. The Stealth Pro makes it easier to have better posture. If you typically sit a little forward in your chair, the Stealth is perfect for that. My old chair was a Lazy Boy Executive chair that I fell asleep in many times. Neither the Stealth or Aeron are chairs for that. You would fall out if you fell asleep. I guess that's why I still have a couch in the studio... If anyone buys a Stealth, My recommendation is to use the shorter pole and the smaller wheels, unless you like being in almost a standup position. I also got the Stealth Standard. The Pro Executive has a slightly wider seat, a bigger backrest and the optional large rubber wheels. I'm not sure the Pro Executive is worth $250 more than the standard, but that's what I bought so I will keep it. I will be using it during a mix session that starts tonight, so I will get a chance to really test it out.

What about studio stools for session players? Has anyone found anything that doesn't make noise?
