You're Nobody without a Neve. donāt forget the other saying āBuy a Neve, Go out of Businessā Iām starting to really like the idea of this thing. The options for transformer balanced line in conversion is so very limited, so this is a welcome device. Thanks for sharing the positive experience. Same. I've no firsthand experience with the sound of the 88, so I'm unsure if the preamps are something I'd dig. Hard to judge by a very few online samples.

This guy did a nice review of it and included a production example.

You're Nobody without a Neve. Anybody in the Mad Men Show, would be proud to come up with this brilliant line/slogan. (Even after they stole it!) Chris

Honestly, I just trust Plush and Gene Michael Hall's fine judgement. (OK "Kidding Mode" back on) Chris

The problem with this thing is misunderstood and from conversations with a couple of buyers misrepresented by a number of dealers. Neve is a victim of their own past successes, a fair number of people think Neve means 10 series, forget everything of the last 30 years other than 10 series reissues. This thing is a bargain if you want something simple and clean for acoustic or measurement work, but if you watched Dave Grohls Soundcity documentary and are thinking thatās what this is youāre screwed. I was seriously looking at one of these after Hudsonic raved for measurement stuff and some small scale stereo pair work as well. If a usb MiniDSP with its own individual calibration file wasnāt so damn cheap and easy to use I would have grabbed one.

The round trip latency is too high for monitor mixes at 44.1 or 48 khz so you canāt use the full ins and outs with adat to run a high quality 10 in / 10 out mobile rig. Mac usb latency is higher than Windows. Thereās no onboard low latency dsp mixer for monitor mixes like Apogee and RME. RME Babyface Pro will sound a lot worse for sure but it has low round trip latency at 44.1 and 48 khz and the on interface dsp total mix mixer. Apogee Symphony Desktop has the great sound quality and the digital mixer but is too high latency for amp sims and vsti synths and isnāt usb powered. UAD needs tbolt and sound quality in between apogee and rme but onboard low latency digital mixer with better fx unlike Neve. This Neve 88m seems like itās for overdubs only really. Almost great but lacking some necessary features for multichannel recording vs the more experienced interface manufactures. Maybe itās badass on Linux or something. Still better than the merging / Neumann desktop interfaces with fans š

As I'm on the road so much this seems like it'd be a great solution for demos. Pack that, a Schoeps and an SM7 and I could record an album anywhere. The direct monitoring system is the only turn off, it just seems a little basic, a 2nd headphone out would have been great too but oh well.

Thereās no low latency monitor mix solution for the adat inputs unlike the apogee symphony desktop which has two built in digital mixers and fx. Same with the worse sounding but cheaper rme Babyface pros. UAD wants the same price as Apogee now for 2in 2out which is frickin hilarious.

Particularly since I've had the Apogee Element 88 as my interface for 6 years and the sound is great. The little I've heard online, the Desktop sounds quite a bit better. I haven't heard the newer apollos but did try older ones and always sent them back.

Any other users of the 88m can chime in? Thinking of purchasing this box or the Neumann mt48. Want simplicity

Any other users of the 88m can chime in? Thinking of purchasing this box or the Neumann mt48. Want simplicity I am. Happy with the sound and simplicity. What are your needs besides simplicity? No experience with the Neumann MT, but it looks more flexible. Sure it sounds good too.

I bought one a few months ago, very happy with it. The first few weeks I tried very hard to find something I didn't like about it, but it all just works. Love the pre's and the inserts. If simplicity, great sound and portability is needed, can't recommend it enough. Looked at the mt48 aswell for something portable, couldn't gel with the whole touch screen. I'm sure it's great and more flexible. My cave man brain is happy with a few simple knobs. Less fuss is more music in my case.

Iāve had mine more than a year and record with it every day. Like it very much. Easy to use and plugs into my Mac Studio.
Headphone output is underpowered IMO so I run headphones through a Little Labs Monotor headphone amp.
