In a large engineer group text I just heard that Dave Hill of Crane Song and other brilliant gear and software endeavors has passed away.

RIP Sir. He designed some of the best gear ever. I am fortunate to have his Trakker compressor.

Man I’m reading this just before heading over to the bar to see an AE from Superior. At least we can toast the Genius, might even throw on a Hawaiian Shirt!

RIP. Designer of some of the best modern gear. I hope his legacy lives on and Crane Song ramps up production again.

He was always cool about letting me re-demo his plugins and they're great stuff. RIP Dave.

I kind of forgot, I was told forever ago that the Drawmer Mercenary 1969 that I've mixed a jillion things through was actually a Dave Hill design.

Wow. Called Crane Song once & he personally answered & we spoke for at least 15 minutes about converters & other stuff! Told me he was building the equipment himself & that's why it took so long to get out. A great mind, to say the least!

We had an unofficial wake for Dave, drinking with guys from Superior is dangerous unless your a professional, and I am.

Had a similar experience to aremos in the early 2000's. I had a question about the Flamingo mic pre (after listening to Lynn Fuston's shootout CD), so I picked up the phone a called Crane Song. Dave answered the call, and he and I talked for close to 30 minutes. I learned some things on that call, including the fact that he was more excited about creating "tone" with transformers than he felt was possible with tube gear. That was interesting to me, and I've never forgotten that little insight he gave me.

Oh no!
This is really sad.
Last year I phoned Crane Song to get a few spare parts I spoke to Dave for 10 minutes, he always had time for his customers.
He was a gentleman and without doubt a genius as an engineer, on a par with the late great Rupert Neve.
My Crane song HEDD 192 and Avocet are my most priced studio pieces.

This is very sad news.
The Avocet has been at the center of monitoring operations here for quite some time. I have a HEDD as well. I love my Crane Song Falcons, too. Used on every session.
Never had the pleasure to meet him, but I wish I had.
A significant loss to the audio production world.
Ad astra cum alis, Mr. Hill!

Sad news. He obviously impacted a lot of products and people's work. I do hope Crane Song will be able to continue. I know that post earlier implied there were people to carry on, but you never know with these things if business will grow, maintain, or dwindle. Just the comments of people in this thread that he was the one available for info and support shows that people counted on him.
