Mentioned in the UA thread was AI and the future of music over the next 10 years. Some may have already seen this, but if not here you go. David Guetta reveals ‘Emin-AI-em’, a deepfake rapper that sounds remarkably like Marshall Mathers www.musicradar.com/news/david-guetta-eminem-ai-rapper

I dont think there's any industry, or area of life, that AI and robotics wont disrupt in one way or another. I don't have high hopes for how it will effect out industry, but I'm also very aware that the near future is going to be unrecognizable to us all (it already kind of is). So for me, I'm just like "fuck it", and enjoying the ride till we hit the singularity and our robot overlords kill us all.

I had to watch the original '73 Westworld film... Just to take my mind off of it. Chris

The good news is that the Earth population is so big that there's always going to be a niche for all kinds of stuff, so even the manually performed pre-recorded music of today will find an audience.
I believe the biggest change will be real-time generation of music. After all, we love music because it can evoke emotion, and if our devices can measure our emotional response (e.g., galvanic skin response in an Apple watch), the music generation algorithm will learn what sounds/chord progressions/lyrics generate the most intense response and tailor our music during the day. It's not that AI will make music making obsolete, it's just that the new stuff will be extremely addictive. Similar to TikTok vs books. Book and authors still exist, of course, but most people spend most of their time on more engaging media.

I absolutely don't care about AI music.
It won't be involved in making my music - I don't need any help with being creative, why ruin the most exciting, frustrating, life affirming and enjoyable part of producing music. I won't be listening to it - ever (if I'm in a lift or shop playing it I'll be ignoring it as I do anyway with awful background "musak") It won't be involved in my live performances - you'll be hearing me sing and play, piano, guitar and drums (not at the same time of course :-) It won't be teaching my students in my fabulous one to one classes - that'll continue to be me.
If other people want to embrace it, I have no issue with that at all.

I think it’s great that people can buy a writing desk for $200 at Target that actually has some style and flair. That’s wonderful. But I still buy real furniture because the difference to me is noticeable. And I enjoy the well constructed joinery and smooth edges and all that. I have a cousin that is a bespoke furniture maker. I guess his career is different than it would’ve been 100 years ago, but he is not hurting for business I’ll tell you that! Dude sells a lot of $2000 tables.
