Anyone think the full mix in the example was too compressed and hard on top?

OK, just got the Kit Neve strip recently and this one tonight. Played with both to see what's what.
with the Neve, the saturation is mild and doesn't really alter the character much and I am sure that is by design. Im the absence of other plugins, I'd likely be thrilled with it.
With the Magma, I pulled a simple mix together pretty quick from average sounding live tracks. all the tracks benefited from some saturation in differing degrees. It fill the tracks out quickly. The EQ is simple but surprisingly effective. The gate is nothing great. Didn't try the expander. The compressor is good enough.
If you remember any of my posts on channelstrips, I always think I am done but still am always looking for a time saving tool. This is a possibility if I can buckle down - lol.

Thanks Rob, super helpful. I actually really like the simple Massey 3 fixed band EQ and am curious about this one. That said, I am basically wondering if I need this given that I already have the Magma saturation plugin. |

I didn't make it to the end of the video. Nothing I heard was attractive to me. It sounds like a waves plugin with dirt, bad stereo image, and weird transients. Sadly the best waves compressor is still the Renaissance. I like the BSS DPR 402 the best of their analog emulations. |

I would always make sure to demo a plug in or hardware for yourself. I don't know what it is but there are a lot of companies that can't seem to put out a decent sounding demo for their products...it's mind boggling.
Case in point, the Heritage Tubesessor demos have been so bad that I want to try one because I can’t believe it is that awful 🤣
