Still using the 2012 5.1 Mac Pro tower and for the first time ever, this morning it won't boot up. Get the apple screen, then the gray screen and spinning wheel and then a warning comes up . . . about not quitting applications correctly, After getting a useful tip reminder from tskguy, the command-shift-R function got me back to a start-up login which helped but it's still running dead slow. Is my old tower toast?

Try a reinstall from a back up, something might be corrupted, since I’m at my Mac guy buying a new drive for a the windows machine I asked him😁

Have you tried Command + Option + P + R at startup? Hold all down at the same time and let the mac make a sound a couple of times.
Sometimes resetting your Ram does the trick.

I have one drum session opened up from last night so I'm trying to finish off the editing and cleaning. Once I get it done . . . I'll restart and try that! Thank you. I used to have to do thane on my old PowerMac 7100 back in the mid-90s.

(Bulleit) Yes, I just went and quickly bought a reconditioned Mac Pro tower (same year model and whatnot) on eBay for about $600 plus shipping and whatever taxes they assess me for... but I think I'll go and get a fully-loaded Studio shortly and the HDX outboard case to go with it. I'll skip getting a new cheese grater if at all possible.

If you get back in and on the net, download onyx, freeware and run it, to clean out digital artifacts etc.

Ward - if you want help with getting your rig running right, DM me and I'll turn you on to a guy who is AWESOME at keeping all my old crap running. (2012 here upgraded to the latest possible specs). Super reasonable, and PT guru to the MAX. Plus, all the gear I buy from him is priced significantly lower than the normal suspects. Not quite sure how he does it, but I tend not to ask. Half the film guys in LA use him, and almost every one I know uses him now.
