Oh no! The blanket just fell on the drummer's head!!! ;-} You laugh but here is the thing, the classic story of the guy who had a pipe burst in his house, no big deal stupid claim, easy right? Well adjuster shows up see’s a trampoline outside, claim denied because if you read your home owners policy carefully that voids your policy. Some call it an urban legend, I call him Fred my old neighbor.

"Some call it an urban legend, I call him Fred my old neighbor."
That's hilarious!

You can do all kinds of things with cheap PVC pipe. PVC is a lot cheaper and safer than iron pipe!
Also, much easier to work with and disassemble.
Pvc can't hold a lot of weight. And it sags and bends. I would not use it as a structural material.

Some call it an urban legend, I call him Fred my old neighbor. Reminds me of when I was a kid and a stranger knocked on the door, my dad answers and the dude introduced himself as some insurance adjuster. He asked for my dad by name. My dad, being quick on his feet and highly distrustful, gave him a fake name and told him that the owners of the house were gone on vacation. The insurance adjuster than asked if the dog on the side of the house belonged the the home owners. My dad replies, “nope, that’s my dog. Im a family friend, just house sitting for the week”. So the guy leaves and we get a letter later asking if we own any dogs, we reply “no” and that needed the matter. Our dog, a 130lbs Rottweiler, would have voided our home insurance if my dad hadn’t been so quick.

"Pvc can't hold a lot of weight. And it sags and bends. I would not use it as a structural material." I get that, but we're talking about holding up a packing blanket (or less). I really don't think a cube-frame of PVC would sag at all with a packing blanket on the top. I love the Producer's Choice blankets! They're so easy to work with -- I drape them over all kinds of things, including mic-stands and PVC, to soak up the waves. Check out the acoustic ratings on those puppies.

"Packing blanket" isn't enough control to do much of anything. Perhaps the special purpose sound blankets will.. And yes, the PVC WILL sag. I've tried it for other things and have been bitten by that already. Those sound blankets are 13-15lbs each and looks like you'd need a few of them per side because to get the rated sound absorption they need to be installed pleated. Better would be steel electrical conduit. It's cheaper and lighter than iron pipe but it seems such overkill when you can just get a couple light stands and a crossbar like I linked to earlier.

I own and use those Producer's Choice blankets and they work great. They are doubled-up on my walls in my shitty little basement "mixing" room, and I take them for remote work and drape them on mic-stands and over chairs/furniture/etc.
I like the light stands that you posted, and might buy some for gobo draping.

That's perfect! I'm going to get a couple to hang my acoustic blankets.

That's perfect! I'm going to get a couple to hang my acoustic blankets. These worked out well for our basement session. I’m able to hang some GIK panels from these with simple metal S hooks. This is enough to tame early reflections and get us a nice drum sound.
