I do a lot of heavy sessions and virtual instruments… plus video capture of 2 to 6 sources and screens at the same time while running the Cubase sessions - and video work to boot. That is why I got the ultra and it has paid off. For most music studios, the standard Mac Studio with 32 or 64gb ram should be plenty.

When does Apple release the MK-Ultra version? I think that one is all part of their super-secret Project Blue Book initiative. Or is it Operation Paperclip? FINALLY!! Glad someone was listening.... LOL.

OK, M1 Max with RX10 crunching 4 instances of Music Rebalance at the same time, hits 98% CPU, no fan that I can hear from 2 feet away.

I'm thinking about picking up a Studio with the M1 Max. It's been out for about a year now, right? But from what I read the M2 (Max) is not much of an upgrade, and I see Apple has no plans in the foreseeable future to introduce a newer model studio (with an M2 Max). Is there any reason to hold out? ..or perhaps the next Studio will ship with an M3??

I posted this video in the other thread, but it's worth watching for the comparisons: I think it's worth holding out if you are not yet on an Apple Silicon machine and specifically want the Studio, if you already have an M1 the performance gains you will get for the money are probably not worth it. Generally the Mini with the M2 Pro has about the same performance as the M1 Max Studio, so that's what I would buy if I had to get something right now today if I wanted 32GB of RAM or less. It's really hard to say when Apple will update the Studio - could be next month, or it could be next year. They never really telegraph much in advance!

ya, I looked at upgrading my m1 mini, but I’s be spending at least a grand Cdn, basically for a larger hard drive.

From what I read, the Ultra is wasted money for music studios in most cases perhaps with the exception of Hollywood scoring type scenarios. Google what users are saying and you'll find that the Max is creaming whatever they throw at it and certainly paying for extra GPU is not going to reap any benefits. Cheers, Ross I don’t see a scenario where I can choke my MS Max.
