I run Logic and am in need of a new computer. It probably needs to happen sooner than later. There's a huge price differential between the two Studio M1 chips. Which version are you rocking and how hard are you hitting it? Any plugin and/or compatibility issues? Which plugins need Rosetta, and are you having any problems with that?

I have the base model M1. Haven’t seen processor hit over 15%. Software bottlenecks feel even more obvious. M1 MBP performs just as well in practical terms, that’s a first. It can open and run anything I’ve ever done on the old iMac or on the Studio so far.
All audio here, no VI’s, no video.
Pointless complaint (it's the future!) - There are plenty of things that feel less elegant with the M1’s, changing input/output hardware, right down to built in speakers versus built in headphones isn’t automatic in places like RX10, I’m spending more time managing things like that than I did with Intel.

The lower priced M2’s can spec worse than the higher priced M1’s. It’s not apples to apples.

According to the rumors no Studio refresh this year but the mini might get one. Have to wait until March event to see though. Long awaited update to Mac Pro should be happening unless they wait until June to announce that. It’s always a guessing game and once they do announce you might be waiting another couple months for availability. I picked up a M1 MBP over the summer. I'm in the market for a new computer to run Cubase 12 Pro, Wavelab 11 and Dorico 4 and all my other software, VI's and plugins which is a very long list!
I looked at the Apple Studio but they're very expensive in my part of the world (considerably cheaper in the USA it appears)
Also, you don't seem to get a lot for your money.
For the same price of the Studio (configured to 64GB RAM and an internal 1TB SSD) I can buy a Pro built for audio
PC Workstation (my last one from the same company has been perfect so for 8 years)
Configured
i9 13th Gen 16 Core
64GB DDR5 RAM
2TB M.2 OS drive
2TB M.2 Sample Drive
2TB M.2 Audio drive
And it's a tower unit so I can transfer all my SATA SSD's into it too.
Plus my RME PCIe host card.
I'm wondering if the Apple Studio is worth getting less M.2 SSD's (5TB less!)
just to move to OSX and have a Studio.
I'm struggling to see the benefit - I mean Windows 10 has been faultless for the last 8 years
and the whole "tweaking" Windows thing is completely a thing of the past.
I also have an iMac in my office/teaching room and I don't find OSX any better or worse than Windows 10/11 they're both just
modern efficient OS's.
So guys .... what's the pull to getting an Apple Studio?
The small foot print?

Of course, it's a no brainer if you're a Logic X user. I paid $200 for for the program circa 2012 and haven't spent a penny for upgrades since. Other than that, I can't necessarily make a strong argument for the Mac ecosystem over others. They all have their pros/cons/idiosyncrasies. Do you prefer big brother or anarchy? Choose your dark side.

No good can come from online discussions. 😂 This isn't GS - this place is populated with grown ups :-) These days (with modern OS's and modern hardware) I see choosing a new computer no different from choosing a compressor or pre-amp. I'm happy to use either platform, both are great in their own way - I just want to make an informed decision before I spend $1000's on a computer I'm hoping to keep and use for the next 8 to 10 years. Perhaps I'm best to stick with Windows if I'm a Cubase user? |

It's a very powerful machine, rarely see the cpu meter move much even with VI's.
