All the tech talk problems, makes me think of the simplicity/ benefits of the amphion design approach. The thing with the Amphion approach is first, if we were to bypass the crossover and play with say a Dolby Lake drive rack with AES I/O cards and decent converters plus 4 ch of decent Amps we could probably come up with a preset that improves on the original. Its really cruel to take almost any speaker with a passive crossover and play around with what you can do in the digital domain. The problem is very simple the Expense of 4 ch of great amps conversion and a good drive box with AES. Second Ill bet 90% of Amphion Pro dealers don't sell an Amp that is a step up from Amphions own amp, or have no idea of anything that might be better. So much of what is sold as Studio Amps are crap. If the guys at Adcom wanted to make some great money they would build a GFA555 with the JW mod and XLRs maybe throw attenuators and sell it through pro dealers. |

I was pretty disappointed in my SCM12's. I've kind of given up on my search for monitors and settled on some NS-10M's to use when I'm at home. I think of all the readily available powered monitors I get KH310's... But not sure how the latest Adam's perform, or HEDD. JBL 708i  Heard some horror stories of the powered versions failing. Probably could be had at a decent price used/demo model |

Probably could be had at a decent price used/demo model yeah you probably would find the used demo pair was one of the failures and JBL won't honor the warrantee. |

I think of all the readily available powered monitors I get KH310's... What is it about the SCM12’s that you don’t like? I have a pair of 20’s and they definitely have a ton of detail and the low distortion driver is really nice but they lack so much low end that I had to add a couple subs. My KH120’s have less detail but a bit more low end to about 55Hz then it falls off a cliff. Been curious about those 310’s. Maybe they strike a better balance of mid/high detail 3 way but with extended low end and smoother roll off being a sealed cabinet. |

Hey guys my Krk v6 finally kicked the bucket and I need new monitors asap. Did you end up deciding on anything? I'm wondering if there's anything out there that will do significantly better than my trusty old Adam P11a monitors in the 300 Hz and below region (I also have a sub) for less than $2k. Currently trying to decide between the APS Klasik 2020 or perhaps something coaxial. Everything sounds great on my Adams but that region is not quite translating and of course my room has a null right around there. |

@tomegatherion , I appreciated parts of your Guitar Center rant. Made me chuckle. Yeah I hate them all but don’t want to targeted by some angry employee. Horrible practices. I hate them. Selling used gear as new with no warranty. Fake insurance on used gear they won’t fix or give you your money back on. Drugged out employees in many stores. Selling broken and unplayable equipment to novices. To be fair, I've always get my money back if the gear is not as described in a 45 day window, which is heaps better than most sellers on Reverb or eBay. As long as you can inspect the gear thoroughly in that 45 day window you're fine. That's why I prefer to buy from the GC used section than Reverb/eBay if possible. But I agree, the place is a dump. |

Hey Dan, just food for thought ... if you're a compression junkie, don't you want some FAST speakers so you can really hear what's happening to transients?
I have the Kali LP6s which are almost like the JBLs 305, and my NS-10Ms, with all of their flaws, low output, and nonexistent bass, are night and day in transient detail. I can tell when a compressor is destroying transients and exactly what's happening with the dynamics.
I know you're looking for something loud, but maybe something to consider (if you haven't used NS-10s). If I were you, and didn't like NS-10s for some reason, I would look into ATCs or unported speakers.

I use a Jim Williams modded Adcom 545 with my One15's and it's a perfect match imo. |

No. Everything active I can buy in person right now was worse or not better than what I am using. The only exception is small Genelecs but very limited headroom. The bigger, better ones are out of stock. The Neumanns are like a crappy love child of Yamaha HS and Genelecs. Most of the rest were hi-fi speakers with shitty amps for poser producers who would be better with HS8. The HS8 make bangers. The hi-fi stuff has iffy results. |

Well that's a shame, any interest in the Hedd Type 20's or Quested V2108's? I've been looking around for alternatives for you in the background. Sorta running dry TBH and I've not heard either of those.

Well that's a shame, any interest in the Hedd Type 20's or Quested V2108's? I've been looking around for alternatives for you in the background. Sorta running dry TBH and I've not heard either of those. My secret hope is that APS Klasik 2020 is restocked by Alto or that Kali comes out with some thing to compete with the 708. The APS have phase aligned seas drivers and no soft clipper on the woofer like Neumanns and small Genelecs. Quested distribution sucks here now. I want to avoid AMTs in general. |

Find the kali a little mid honky and prefer the klassic, be interested to hear it with the bass lowered a little and treble up a tad. Interesting too, when he switches to the track not recorded over either monitor and his mike, pre and AD conversion, so you hear th sound of each monitor. He never seems to show dynaudio  ! |
