Jump in, folks. I sometimes feel like a thread killer too. You say something you think significant and you get a virtual yawn back. The only reason I post more here is it's cozier, more polite and convivial, and less 'internet' than the bigger forums. I mostly lurk elsewhere, and read intermittently.

Love this place! Always finding new perspective. Thanks JK for making it happen! This is my sentiments exactly. Guys, I'm a nobody. I'm not a Nashville player or even in the "industry". I'm a dude in Ohio who LOVES to record music. And I think it's important to always try and learn new things. There are some old salty dogs around here who have a lot of experience, and everyone has been super cool. I read these boards way more than I post anything, but I don't feel like I'm being ignored. Also, I feel like I can trust the opinions of the dudes here more so than on the "other" site. I never really had enough perspective before to see how much bickering goes on in some of those threads. It really clutters things up when you have to sift through countless posts of some guys arguing back and forth. Plus, I realized that I had to take everything with a grain of salt and sort out the opinions of 14 year old kids touting off their experience as testament. Granted, there are some great granules of knowledge on both of these boards. So that's it, really. I'm not one of the "cool" kids (whatever that means) and I really have no desire to be. I'm just me. A dude in Ohio who is super nerdy (i.e., passionate) about this stuff, and this is a super chill place to hang and learn. Take it or leave it.

Believe me - there are people here with MUCH more knowledge than any of us. Multiple pro audio designers, grammy winning artists and engineers, members/foundersRock and Roll Royalty, participants in the awesomeness that was Motown, etc...So - THOSE are the "cool" kids. I'm not a part of that and I still post...so, I figure anyone can and should!

All forums (fora?) have super-posters and experts. I'm content contributing when I can and where I can. Life's so short, too short to worry about whether or not any of us get enough attention. Just get in the water and swim, whether you're a big fish or a small fry.

For me the Internet is all about me and my needs. So when I want something I will engage, when I don't want something or it mildly interests me i don't engage. My season of time at the moment is based around raising the family, trying to stay employed, trying to stay on the same page as my wife and minecraft crazy son. There is little time left over (in this season of time) to be engaging in various threads. Basically it will happen when it happens. But I can agree with others in that I have not found this forum "un inviting " or experienced any "acts of snobbery". It's probably a bit like the early stages of a relationship, you have to put yourself out there for people to get to know you, and the more they hear from you the more they will engage with you. That's my thoughts from Downunder.

Most of my time on here is lurking and learning. I'll throw in 2 cents if I've had an experience that might help someone. I spend more time in this forum than the others and glad its here.

Hey folks,
I just joined. I hope I have found a fun place to share ideas and engage in conversation about music and recording. I have to say that some of the big forums are really getting to be nasty places these days.
Its seems like GS is populated by a lot of very inexperienced people who think they know it all, mixed in with folks who seem to be pros but seemingly are looking for a fight all the time. I like a debate, but there's a time to quit.
I am a hobby musician and a home recordist. I am fortunate to have been able to build up a nice collection of instruments and recording gear, that is, nice enough for me.
For those who may be interested, my recording system in unconventional in that I dont have a DAW. I have a 24 track Toft console, with some select outboard and I track into, and mix out of a RADAR 24 recorder. It has a very cool hands on session controller just like a 24 track tape machines, and the system has basic digital editing capabilities.
The RADAR has first class conversion (as good as anything available)and they paid close attention to the analog interface stages. It has a very big sound. Let me know if you have any questions. These RADARS are something to be considered if you are looking for fun, seamless workflow and great sound.

There are plenty of bullies, armchair quarterbacks, know-it-alls and experts waiting to tell you you're wrong on other forums. This place ain't so bad, so far.

You know what makes this such a nice forum? It's like a bunch of fellers sitting around at a guitar pull, sharing songs and stories where some are really experienced and happy to share and most of the others are happy to learn and genuinely humbled by that kindness... of course, we have the scattered 'Uncle Jake' here who's a douchebag or likes to cop a feel of cousin Jenny's perfectly shaped bottom... but then he gets cut off from the shine and smacked upside the head. That kind of comraderie just isn't grasped on other recording/production fora.

That Uncle Jake can sure be a bastard at times ! Drinkn' all our moonshine and startn' fights about how ITB is better than OTB.......
You know another thing that makes a nice forum is being able to change font colors as we have now both demonstrated . Try to that Purple Devil site !! Well maybe they can do that , I don't know .

Actually Radar and a nice console to me is the best setup to have for recording . Tape is cool but the maintenance costs and tape costs . I'll take Radar .

OK this approximately my 10th post here, maybe I'm hard to intimidate, or just don't feel intimidated, but I don't see an elitist group here, heck most of my posts seam to have either been quoted or liked by the old gang! Now JK I am pissed you didn't find away to let me know you had set up this new place to hang, and talk gear and BS a bit ! But I'm not about to give you the silent treatment!
To the newbies at some point every bodies right and at some point everybody's wrong! If you keep the perspective of ....worked for me; I like.... ; I think... Your not going to be beaten to a pulp, just beat up! I've been doing this for 25 years and learn as much from new a as from Bob Ohlssen, So join me in the conversation !
