I've been experimenting with my Haken pop filter. While it does a great job with minimal coloring, there is still a bit that's noticeable when it is parallel to the front of the mic.
What I've discovered is that turning/angling the Haken somewhere between 0 and 30 degrees still protects from plosives, but effectively reduces the coloring and brings it much closer to having no filter at all. In fact, the de-coloring seems to incrementally diminish the more angle you put on it. It's like you can adjust what you want up to a certain point by very slight changes in angle. At least that's what I hear. Must be related to how the pattern in the foam is impacting the sound, because this obviously does not apply to nylon or meta single-layer filters.
Maybe everyone already knows this, but thought I'd share for those who use them.

I was also a bit puzzled by your post at first.
Then I wondered, is it possible that your room has a low ceiling height? And because of that there’s an interaction with the filter that might not be there in a larger room?
I use mine primarily in front of a 47 or 67 in my vocal booth which is a 9 foot quarter round design, and I have found it to be the least colored of all pop filters I have used!
Granted, everything colors… And it would be silly to think that there is no possible effect or interaction that will slightly change the sound

8' ceiling. I've either got Golden Ears or bad room acoustics. I know what I'd like to think, but I also know what reality likely is.

I agree that everything effects sound, even things that on paper aren't supposed to IME.
I have both the Haken and the Rycote made of similar material but the Rycote is thinner, and noticed not only the small differences between the 2, but also discovered why I think the Rycote plastic pop filter holder shapes the filter in a convex shape after I noticed holding up the same filter flat verses convex resulted in small differences I could hear. Small differences but different non the less IME.

...so I'm NOT crazy. ( mike, check's in the mail.)

I haven’t noticed that it colors the sound at all. +1 I did a very simple double blind test I recorded with the filter and without then tried to guess which was which - I found it impossible. I have another filter to that's also amazingly transparent "Pauly Pop Filter" I bought types both at the same same to see which was best but in the end they where both invisible to my ears.

I agree. I’d suggest blind tests
