Damn. Goodhertz said I would be able to select the plugins I wanted to install, in the installer. Nope. Have all kinds I don’t have access to installed. Ah! This is on my home computer. Not doing that to the studio computer too!

I’m grabbing the Goodhertz now, but still may grab the Sonic Orbit too, just to get a hands-on grasp of the workflow differences. I still have the stupid thought in the back of my head of shoving two capsules, sub-mini tubes, small output transformers, and JT-MB-Ds into an 47-type body, for a crazy stereo end-address microphone! Why? It just sounds fun! I was hoping for SD capsules, but it seems does one in Fig-8 without going big manufacturer, in housing for their mics, and for good money. I mean Schoeps makes some nice MS kits. But you could get a CCMk4 and CCMk8 and it would probably fit in a large mic body with some custom cabling like the Rycote cable box to a 5 pin XLR connector.

Yes, but that sounds way too expensive for such a cockamamie idea. That may end up being the route anyhow though if I ever put it in motion. I’d pull the capsules out of their housings though.

I demo'd this when it was a half rack unit. avensonaudio.com/shop/mid-sider/though, I'd also point out that I'm pretty sure RME's Totalmix has one in it's hardware mixer (at least on some interfaces?) if ALL you wanted was to DEcode--ie feed two mics and have it feed the stereo decode to your DAW to record. Voxengo's MSED is free and you can put it into a Cubase input channel to print through...I'm just saying--you don't necessarily need analog to do that-I was using it mostly to go both ways from a pair of EQs--I could do some lovely things to sampled piano on the way in with an analog M/S EQ--and then some analog mastering duties--so, I needed analog. There's a more expensive Dangerous unit aimed at mastering, TOO. Just saying...the units exist and again for just a decode of your two mics, you can likely do it digitally. Even if after the fact--you can jsut record monitoring the mid...and then pull both up with the free MSED to decode.

Not doing that to the studio computer too! Install reaper, it has a MS encoder and decoder VST plugin. No limitations on the unregistered Reaper If you want hardware, can those Small SSL mixers get it done? (Just looked, looks like the little 6 doesn’t have polarity. The 500 channel strips do, $299 each though, and you’d need 3 I guess)

Voxengo have a free M/S encoder/decoder plugin that’s free and easy to use.

Before I buy a pair of Jensen JT-MB-D transformers, grab a box, connectors, and break out the iron, anyone already sell an M-S transformer decoder box already built? I’m surprised Jensen/Radial doesn’t. Is someone going to say just use an IC one? Which for about the same price (or not)? I want microphone-level. Just saw this... reverb.com/item/61978555-custom-ms-box-amigo-studios-1980-s

Not doing that to the studio computer too! you sure you didn't just not select the ones you didn't want? I've never had that happen. I always select the ones I want and works every time. Done it on 4 different machines.

Unless I somehow missed it, it only gave me the option check/uncheck VST, AU, AAX, etc.

Thanks! Hmmm… Tough call… I’m long-past buying vintage just to buy vintage, thinking it’s superior. And I’m most definitely long past paying vintage prices just because it’s vintage. Half that price and I’d probably take the chance just to try it!

Half that price and I’d probably take the chance just to try it! Yeah you can build something nice for half that price. We don't even know what's in that box!

FYI i just updated mine Goodhertz stuff on a machine today. To select what you want when you get the Install type window where you can select VST, AU, VST3, AAX, there are drop down arrows to select the specific plugin in that plugin type. So very customizable.
