So I am digging my Dyn LYD48s but with Sonarworks, I’m usually close to diming my volume knob as I have them with the extra 10Hz frequency response (it drops the output level to get those extra Hz).
Now Dyn make the 9S and 18S to complement these. I can find a 9S pretty easily for under $1k but I’m wondering how critical it is to get the matched sub, considering I have a 700 watt B&W ASW2500 sitting here doing nothing. I know the Dyn should basically be plug and play and I have a tendency to have my subs a little louder, so that would eliminate that problem (or at least minimize it) but is there any other advantage to getting the matching sub I’m overlooking that really makes dropping that $1k-ish my best move?

In most cases “ matching sub “ really just means same company designed them so they can be hit or miss. Now as much as I understand the desire to use the BGW I am going to make 2 points then a suggestion. First Stereo subs, they intergrate easier are easier to position. 2nd DSP makes life with a sub so much easier, if you high pass the mains analog. Also 2.5 not many non active subs unless you really want to spend a lot and or are really good at DIY and you still need a crossover. So my pitch any of SVS 3000 subs and some Harrison Labs FMods to passively cross the mains. www.hlabs.com/
