I made a quick test of the hardware and the plugin to give an idea about the tone. Please consider that I'm pretty sure my hardware has never had any maintenance, and probably needs it. On both the plug and hardware, I tried to drive them at about the same level. The EQ knobs were all at zero.
I'm sure I could have gotten the two to sound more alike with some tweaking.

Nah, this thing is meant to eliminate the boing and grit of a typical spring verb. I compare it favorably to a plate, and use it in similar places. Then why not use a plate if plate-like is what you actually want. To me, bong and grit are reasons to use a spring, not really things to avoid. If it can't do Dick Dale it ain't much of a spring! And you can always use a limiter on the input... Not sure I understand the question...I'm not saying the 305 sounds like a plate. I'm saying it's more platelike than boingy. If you can't find a reason for that particular sound, then that's your (un?)creative prerogative, but I tend to like expanding my toolset and all the sonic options that come with that.

And you can always use a limiter on the input... Can't fit a plate reverb in a rack. Or a mobile truck (a market when these and the AKG BX-10 and similar were made). The 305 and the AKG BX stuff are their own thing, and do something a guitar spring reverb (or, for that matter, an Orban, Furman, Sound Workshop, and countless others that are guitar spring reverb tanks in a box) or a plate reverb can't do. Variety is the spice of life! The Arturia Spring 636 does the Dick Dale thing nicely. I think that plugin is a bit under-rated/unknown. Yeah, I wasn't thinking of the BX series. As I remember, BOC used to tour with one of those.

This sounds great, very cool. I like Fuse stuff. The VCL Mu is one of my regularly used plugs, as well as the plate.

I bought it :-)
It's really great. Different in a great way.
Thanks to the OP for the heads up.
.... just when I thought I'd never buy another reverb plugin!

I too thought that I'd never buy yet another reverb plug-in, even from Fuse Audio Labs (I've got 21 Fuse plug-ins already!) But that's until I heard Ray's audio demos, and realised the sound designer possibilities of having separate controls for the left and right channels for some novel animated action.

I finally got around to messing with this guy today. Pretty cool. I just ran through the presets and made adjustments from there. I liked it enough on a scratch vocal that I saved it in place for future reference after I cut the keeper vocal(s).

If both were available I’d prefer the hardware on each. Plugin is a nice to have though

This reverb comes off to me as pretty and lush. Had you had good results using it more like an old Fender amp spring reverb? More grit is what I'm thinking. Nah, this thing is meant to eliminate the boing and grit of a typical spring verb. I compare it favorably to a plate, and use it in similar places. +1 Exactly, I’m finding this reverb plug-in and the implementation of the springs make it have it’s own unique sound. As you say, it really is a great alternative to a plate reverb. The spring reverbs in my guitar amps are a totally different sound, but I love how this 305 emulation sounds so different to them. It has to be one of the bargains of 2022 at $29 especially when you look at the price of some UAD plug-ins and the new Strymon reverb at $200!
