Softtube Console 1 and Logic

Been thinking about giving Console 1 a try (although with Pro Tools). I've got to make my home set up more economic and get less dependent on the mouse. I bought a S1 but my desk kind of sucks and it sits too high and it's too deep. Furniture is such a headache

Cool, I hope Cubase get's this new DAW mode where you don't need to insert a Console 1 plugin to have basic control over your DAW.

I don't have the fader pack as I use a Faderport 16 but I get lot's use out of Console 1, I think it's a great tool.
I have the additional SSL 9K and Brit A - they're really good.

If only they'd get rid of the auto-gain make up when using the compressors, even if one could just de-select it - that would be a help.

Logic updated, Softube updated. Now all works apparently.

I don't think I'm an especially smart person. I think I'm capable of a lot of things but I'm not some brilliant person. I also can't predict the future.

I was, however, able to read the information on their website at that time saying which DAWs were fully compatible, which were partially compatibled, and which were not at all compatible. My DAW of choice at that time was fully compatible as was one of the ones I was considering switching to. I was also considering switching to another DAW and that one was not compatible at all.

I decided I'd try some DAWs out and let that determine my workflow going forward.

With technology stuffs - especially when two separate companies need to work together in order to get a potential future result - a single bird in hand is worth 9 or 10 in the bush.

It's been great for me. Some people I know developed a workflow to work in the less-supported DAWs. Some people didn't like it/didn't like how it worked with their preferred workflow and sold it.

It’s a shame because the Neve and API strips sound pretty good. Better than some clone hardware. British Class A is fat and warm and American Class A doesn’t sound like API but some crazy digital distortion thing. API eq way more useful than Neve too.

Years ago I did read the warnings about Logic and decided not to buy. But many folks didn't read the fine print.

I might consider it now. Especially the fader. But at this later stage I've invested in so many other plugins, switching to take advantage of the Softube stuff in their control setup seems sort of like a hard turn. I know they also work with several UAD things, but I'd hope the overall system was a bit more agnostic.

Anyhow, I'll be looking for Logic users experiences and hopefully they enjoy it.

Only if you want 1990s digital console algorithms repackaged for the eighth time! SSL put their C series console DSP in the Duende Firewire DSP boxes and then has had 7 versions of the native plug with the plastic sounding algorithms. If you want 90s console dsp, just buy the Sonnox Oxford EQ and Oxford Dynamics next time they're on sale. They sound a million times better than the SSL Native Channel Strip. SSL has updated the gui to look pretty but it doesn't have the prettiest gui of any SSL plug. McDSP Channel G version 7 does! And it gives you API type filters too so it's still a better buy!

SSL is part of the same group that owns Allen and Heath and Digico. In the high end live world Digico is the Console ( ironic because Digico was originally Soundtracs . The SSL fader thing looks and feels a hell of a lot like the small Digico surface. Now here is where it gets interesting in plugin world , the Soundgrid platform that is marketed buy Waves in the US & is primarily aimed at bringing Waves to the live world, its Digico to the rest of the world. Now say what you will about Waves wouldn’t you at least push that relationship to MAP the Waves library to the benefit of both?
I always suspected this group bought SSL because they feared SSL as a Digico competitor, the acts new SSL and would be an easy push, plus the fact that years earlier the only Digital platform that could handle the Surround requirements of the Celine Dione Vegas Show was the SSL Axiom MT ( think Axiom but with a 9K like control surface).
