I had an email this morning that an interview I did with metal production impresario, Terry Date, was actually being referenced in a Wiki article (woo hoo! big time!). Hadn't read it in a minute, but it was a fun trip down memory lane ( editing a meandering two hour Zoom chat into a cohesive interview was a chore). If you're a fan of the guy and his contributions to the lexicon of modern metal mixes, it's a worthwhile read. Not super techy, more philosophical than anything else. Honestly, I've worked with enough "name" artists to not ever be starstruck, but it was awesome to talk to a guy who is such a huge influence. Linky-Poo. <- click that

Sweet, I’ll give it a read. Was just revisiting Oteps first album, Sevas Tra, and thinking about how great that album sounds. Terry Date worked on so many of my favorite albums.

Sweet, I’ll give it a read. Was just revisiting Oteps first album, Sevas Tra, and thinking about how great that album sounds. Terry Date worked on so many of my favorite albums. There are so many times that I put on a TD-produced record and just think to myself how freaking great it sounds. Some deeper cuts for me would be like "Rickets" or "Elite" by Deftones, "Dim the Lights" by Handsome, "Slaughtered" by Pantera... the insanely heavy, thick mixes he does are my favorite. Just absolutely huge. I feel like some of the laptop metal I hear now takes cues from his blueprints, but just sucks a lot of the soul out. Too icy. Too "perfected". Only other thing I could say about the guy is that, compared to some other interviews I have done (say, certain engineers who refer to themselves in the third person by their initials), he was just a real sweetheart. It was almost like he was amazed people are fans of him as a producer. We only had forty-five minutes slated and as the clock was running out he goes, "hang on, let me bump this 2:00 for an hour so we can keep talking."
