Well since the pack and ship company from my Promix auction has ghosted me, I’m in need for something for live and there is an original O2R on Craigslist for $100. I have owned 2 02R’s in the past for live and it would fit the needs, ( not doing gigs with riders ). I really want a DM2000, a DM1000 is what I really need but an O2R would work for now, I could build a AD8HR stage box and buy the other bits and then Switch to a DM1K or 2K. Anybody have any thoughts?

Better deal than a used, aka broken, x32

Any reason, besides the cheap price, that you wouldn’t want something like an Allen Heath SQ, or Presonus studio live?
I used to own an o1v and spent plenty of time on the o2r…the memories are not fond to be honest lol. For live work I’d hate the menu system on those mixers. But ymmv.

I helped a group a few weeks back with a Tascam DM24. Sort of similar era, gotta know where your menus are. Sonically I was able to do whatever I needed. Took me some sweaty moments reading the manual and dealing with a dim LED screen that wasn’t the easiest to read… might have been halfway broken. Man! Technology has advanced soooo much. I’ve been installing Yamaha TF stuff lately and using the iPad control, etc.. and to go back to the old stuff it’s like “oh yeah.. they didn’t have enough screen resolution to use words..” Sonically and functionally.. once it’s saved as a preset, it works.. I guess. IF you can read the preset, which on this one was very dim. The group said later they got many compliments on the sound. (Edit: might be good for flipping? If the conversion works, it beats out my scarlett, which is 75% broken. And has moving faders. I always liked the Yamaha stuff)

After having an 02r die a horrible and inconvenient death years back I'd be weary to trust one for live use.

I have one client who really, really likes the AD8HR pres, while I can’t control them from the O2R I can control them via Ethernet, the Goal is Still a DM and full control from the console. The SQ I demoed was a dog, plus I know Yamaha and the very modular nature of the AD8HR makes it easy to grow. The only real expense is the Ethersound interface.

Better deal than a used, aka broken, x32 Every time I see a X32 I can’t help but think you would need to spend more on a case than the board! Kind of like the Mackie 40ch SR. Will never forget unpacking the first one putting it next to the Midas Xl200 and thinking I’m going to need a better case! The best thing I can say about the big Mackie was it sold a hell of a lot of Allen and Heath!

Live sound is one thing, but I will never let the 02R’s converters touch my audio ever again.
And i was one of the people who paid close to MSRP to get one when they were initially released. Honestly, with 20-bit adats and a ProTools ADAT bridge, it was really capable for its day - but the Yamaha’s conversion was just icky.

I was offered $100 to take an 02R. But couldn't afford getting it. Chris
